Sad News to Share

really didnt expect this went I opened this thread.

he was an amazing guy, always helpful, strict but always fair. exactly the kind of person you want to have as a mod/admin. he was one of the main characters here on the forum. enormous loss.

i dont know what happened to him or what he had to deal with but I wish he found peace. his legacy will live on on BHW. may his name be remembered and never forgotten.

all the best and lots of strength to his family and everyone close to him.

this should also serve as a reminder to everyone on here that time is endless and we have to make the best out of it. take action, be brave, be fair, stay humble

REST IN PEACE, BTB.
YOU'VE BEEN TREMENDOUSLY HELPFUL IN SHAPING VISIONS AROUND HERE, INCLUDING MYSELF.

HEARING THIS NEWS LITERALLY RUINED MY DAY.

I worked with him for over 5 years, "Story time with Greg" is what I used to call that, it always made him chuckle. We've heard many of them. During meetings, private chats, etc. He had a story on pretty much every topic you can think of. Oftentimes, the stories resulted in a sarcastic bottom line, in a true BTB fashion.

The thing is, we knew this day was coming, and yet, knowing doesn't really make it easier. He was a fighter, a sarcastic and stubborn Yankee, as I used to call him, who stayed with us pretty much until the end, just like I thought he would. But he was a respectful, caring, thoughtful, and really funny person. The community isn't really aware that he has personally helped many people, not for fame or acknowledgment, but because he could. I used to call him "Greg Charity Foundation" and that was for a good reason.

There are a lot of things to be said about him... about the person he was, about the things he has done, about his legacy.... but I'll just say this because I know he'd love it, as that's how our relationship was ...

I hope he gets to say "please" wherever he is and still blames the politeness on me as he usually did :)

I knew BTB as the person that always responded to my reports with "Cleaned that up" lol I think he invented the phrase for the other admins ;)

His public advice to others and his occasional likes on what he must have deemed a valuable post of mine, was the inspiration I got from him, in his high standards.

Oh damn... This genuinely hurts really badly to hear.

Now, I remember from some of the threads where we interacted and some of the things he talked about that he might probably see this coming and only now are some of those things he shared starting to make sense to me

Mahhn, this sucks.

Rest in Peace, BTB... Good night, Greg : (

Deepest condolences to his family and the many friends he made online and offline.

He was a great watcher... and now HIS watch is ended.

So incredibly sad to read this. Greg had such a presence around the forum and he always stood out to me as being an exceptional and rare character - It was very clear that he spent lots of time here and always tried to do his very best - extremely humble in his approach to moderating the forum, always very fair and always impartial.

He also helped me out many times in the past with advice and he often took the time to comment on my personal acheivements as well.

Greg you will be greatly missed. RIP.

I learned so much from him from day one and looked up to him.

I think we all did really, I was going the rounds earlier in the week asking the Admins what was going on but in my heart I knew, as my aunt said to me this week: God takes the good ones First and this is the most apt quote about the man.

Greg and I chatted a lot and I had decided that later this year when I am over in Tampa I would drive over to him on the east coast to visit and fly back from Orlando. Had all the times and flights planned and here we are. He told me it would be an honour if I visited, I told him I didn't think so, the honour was all on him.
One of lifes many regrets, hopefully Greg is in a much better place now and whoever I target on here to help me has got some blooody big boots to fill. An irreplaceable asset to this place and a sad loss to everybody.

RIP mate, I will think of you often.

That is very shocking to hear. :(

I am not sure what to say. He was my mentor when it comes to being a moderator. Whenever I made a mistake, instead of blaming me for the mistake, he took it upon himself for not showing me the correct way. He was a father-like figure for me.

RIP man. I will miss you.

I had a feeling something is wrong because he was never gone from the forum for so long.

This is a huge loss to the forum. To say that he's irreplaceable will be an understatement.

He once paid for my Jr. VIP. I didn't even realise it until it was time to renew it the next year that it was him who paid for that upgrade. I was down with COVID when this happened. It says a lot about the kind of man he was, he didn't even want to be thanked. Just paid for it anonymously.

Hope his wife is doing okay.

Rest in Peace, Greg.

It is with great sadness, love and loss that we announce the passing of BTB.

Greg, better known as BTB or @BassTrackerBoats around BHW, was a dedicated member of our team, a good friend, proud husband, father and grandfather.

Always there with a quip, story or an anecdote from a long and varied life, he'd constantly undersell himself as 'the Janitor' around here, always putting himself down, but he meant so much to many of us. He was a real force in our community, respected and admired as a colleague and a true friend. Over the more than ten years we worked together, he brought experience, loyalty, warmth, and care that enriched those of us fortunate enough to be included in his circle.

Always here (literally always) with a helping hand around the forum and a suggestion or two for those who raised questions, he considered BHW his second home, sharing his thoughts with the community and team, engaging and funny to the last.

A true Facebook hustler, in there since the early days, he always underplayed when asked for advice. But that advice was all too often on the money and extremely helpful. Dedicated to his beloved football, basketball and baseball teams, combined with a particular penchant for Oysters, he’d always be about the “good people” in his life, pushing others ahead of himself and always wanting to be in and amongst whatever was going on in the forum.

He was a great friend and confidant to all of us. You'll be missed, BTB. Enjoy that big pond in the sky, my friend.

They don't make them like that anymore.
This is a sad loss. A former BHW user recently messaged me on TG asking if I've heard anything about him(BTB) citing that it's been a while since he posted. I just told him BTB left a profile post that he's taking sometime off to fix a few things, it's sad to learn he's not going to be back

This is indeed a huge loss to the forum/community.

The new members may not know much about him but around 5-6 years ago when I was new in BHW, we used to joke about how he shows up in any random thread when someone mentions BTB without even tagging him. I hope he does one last time to see the love and respect he earned over all these years.

He is very polite and used to write multiple paragraphs when we complain about warnings being unfair. He used to apologise and revoke warnings if he is convinced. We used to refresh page before reporting spam threads because BTB usually removed them within minutes. That's why he used to call himself a clean-up guy - The Janitor but he worked here like a customer support representative talking to several members everyday and helping them.

I hope he takes much needed rest now in a place he loves as much as BHW.

Literally this happened to me a year or so ago, and because of that, I can't say anything bad about him ever, quite the opposite!

You need to stop with the introduction spam or you are going to get banned. I just had to unban you.

Hat off!
Rest in piece!
God bless your soul!
