Hello

If you had to start a brand new website today then what is the one SEO task you would never ignore based on your past experience?

For me there are few things I wish I had focused on earlier especially when it comes to site structure and content planning. Interested to know what lessons others learned the hard way.

keyword research and content planning would be the one thing .I would never skip again because targeting the wrong keywords can waste months of effort even if the content quality is good.

If I were starting a new site today, I’d never ignore getting the site structure right from day one. Clean silos and a clear internal linking plan save a lot of headaches later and make everything scale much easier.

I will try to optimise the site looking like I will consider it like it is someone else website i am the visitor. how does it look and how it is easy accessible

ill study the competition in more detail and consider various alternatives. the big difference in results I get are based on a niche that there is much lesser competition. quality of articles didnt matter so much for me. of course I try to make it the best I can but finding the right niche is also important. I chose rabbits because thats my interest. if I were to do something I didnt like I dont think it will last.

for me it's internal linking I used to focus on publishing more content but a strong internal link structure helped rankings far more than I expected and made crawling much easier

first pick a solid niche & then focus on low-competition keywords.

i’ve learned not to ignore site structure early on, fixing it later always takes way more effort

I think we will start with Onpage SEO.

I would block all traffic spidering until I had 100 articles. After that, I'd get one viral post to launch the site and let the magic happen

Biggest mistake today is launching with a first post and building slowly like old days. That doesn't work anymore.

keyword/topic mapping before writing a single page, fixing structure after the fact is way more painful than doing it upfront

Internal linking is easy to overlook but its compound over time

Great reminder! Many people focus on building backlinks but ignore basic on-page SEO. If I had to choose one task I'd never skip, it would be a complete technical SEO audit before starting any link-building campaign. A strong foundation always delivers better long-term results. Thanks for sharing your insights!

I’d never skip keyword research it’s the foundation of every successful SEO strategy. Without it, even great content can miss the right audience.

I think If I were dropping a brand new domain today, I would never ignore building tight from day one, because forcing Google to see clear semantic relationships between your pages is the only way to quickly break out of the sandbox and survive the continuous core update volatility

For me it’s checking GSC at page level.

Pages with impressions but low CTR, p.2 keywords, queries the page almost answers, those are usually easy wins.

Second is internal linking

I'd focus on topical authority early. A clean content plan beats publishing random article everyone.

It would be proper keyword research and content planning from the beginning. It saves a lot of time later and helps avoid creating content that does not match what people are actually searching for. I would also make sure the site structure and internal linking are set up properly from day one. Small things early can make a big difference later.
