What is the biggest waste of time task in Technical SEO?

Hi,
Recently, I have noticed that some technical SEO tasks are time taking but not mandatory for ranking such as tweaking meta tags or chasing perfect core web vital scores.
What do you think what is the biggest waste of time task for you?

there is no need to pursue perfection when you have already got your CWVs into good statu using pagespeed. It would be better for you to focus on crawl optimization instead of indexation bloating.

I faced the issue that web-page crawled perfectly but shows the indexing error. In that case what should be our priorities.
 
My advice is don't spend too much time chasing tiny SEO improvements that have little real-world impact I've seen people spend hours tweaking meta tags and minor technical details while ignoring content quality and user intent. Focus on the changes that move the needle first, then optimize the smaller stuff later.

For me tweaking meta tags are also waste of time task. I have also noticed that some techniques are time taking but not mandatory. So, In that case I will more focused on improving content quality and user experience.
 
I think the biggest waste of doing technical SEO for perfection rather than focusing on pages that actually bring traffic and conversians.
 
For me its obsessing over fixing every single crawl error in Search Console. Spent so much time early on trying to get that error count to zero, going through hundreds of "Discovered but not indexed" URLs that were basically low value paginated pages or filter combinations that never needed to rank anyway.
Realized later that Google not indexing those pages was actually correct decision on its part. Time I wasted on those errors couldve gone into improving actual money pages. Now I only care about crawl errors on pages that actually suppose to rank, everything else I just ignore or noindex and move on. Not every Search Console warning is a problem worth solving

Such instances are not that rare, since the page that is most relevant to the search could actually appear first, and aspects like structure, relevance and user experience could play more importance than just content length and backlinking
 
I think obsessing over perfect Core Web Vitals can waste time Fix major issues then focus on content
 
Trying to improve your website speed or performance.

There are a few tweaks that'll take less than an hour. After that, there is not much you can do. If your server is slow like a turtle, the performance won't improve no matter what tweaks you do. It's better to hit a stable revenue and then switch to a faster server.

even though your site is high DA/PA, it does not necessarily mean that it is a good link to use. High DA/PA links are only valuable when they are topic related. therefore, use topic related clean link.
 
For me it's schema.
A few years back I was adding FAQ, Article and all sorts of schema to pretty much every page. Spent way too much time on it and can't say it made any real difference.
Now I only use it where it's needed and don't think about it much beyond that.
I would rather spend that time publishing content or building links.

Chasing perfect SEO scores instead of fixing issues that actually impact crawling indexing or user experience is usually the biggest time waster.
 
Site architecture is critical for SEO because it helps search engines crawl your site efficiently while improving user experience and internal link authority.
 
For me its chasing perfect Lighthouse scores, you can sink hours into it for barely any real ranking improvment.
 
I spend more time on content and site structure than trying to improve every technical metric. Not every small issue has a noticeable impact on rankings.
 
Obsessing over perfect SEO scores in audit tools. Fixing real issues that affect crawling and user experience usually has a much bigger impact.
 
While neglecting content and authority, many SEOs devote hours to fine-tuning minute technical details. Prioritizing high-impact fixes is much more effective.
