Shorts van generate views quickly, but many creators claim they attract a different audience than long-form content. Have Shorts helped grow your channel in a meaningful way or have they created challenges for audiences retention and monetization?

Shorts help with quick reach, but the audience isn’t always the same as long-form Good for growth, but not always strong for retention or monetization.

shorts or long form, they are in a different world. better to focus either of them in 1 channel, not both, for better result.

I think YouTube Shorts can be helpful for reaching new viewers but their impact on long-term growth depends on whether those viewers also engage with the channel’s regular content Getting views is one thing but building a loyal audience is a different challenge

Use Shorts as a supplement, not your main strategy. They can generate a lot of views and exposure, but converting those viewers into long-form viewers can be difficult. The best results tend to come when Shorts are very closely related to the content you want people watching on your main channel.

I think short-form videos can help a channel grow much faster and attract more subscribers.

i think the best way to use shorts is as a hook that links back to your long form videos. Then you can get growth in the long form video instead of trying to covert viewers into followers with your shorts

You can get reach with shorts and if your content is interesting enough people will also view your long form content.

They only hurt your channel if your short-form content targets a completely different niche than your long videos. Since the recommendation models are decoupled, chaotic Shorts confuse your true audience persona. Use them strictly as high-impact trailers or contextual bridges to feed your main funnel.

For some creators, short-form content definitely works better than long-form. I recently came across a channel with 18 million subscribers that has only six long-form videos the last one was uploaded over two years ago but more than 1,000 Shorts. The channel has accumulated over 14 billion views and has essentially abandoned long-form content altogether in favor of Shorts for its massive audience. That said, long-form videos generally have a much higher RPM.

From my experience, Shorts definitely help with getting views quickly, but it’s kind of a mixed bag when it comes to actual channel growth. You can gain a lot of views and even subscribers fast, but a big part of that audience doesn’t really convert into long-form viewers, so your retention on regular videos can suffer.

Monetization-wise, Shorts don’t bring in much on their own and don’t always build a loyal audience. I’ve found they work best as a funnel, if your Shorts are related to your main content and give people a reason to check out your longer videos, then they can actually help. Otherwise, it can feel like you’re growing two completely different audiences.

Shorts help bring in views and subscribers but hardly any shorts viewer switch to your long-form videos

Shorts definitely increased views, but I haven't seen the same impact on watch time or loyal viewers.

The trick is treating Shorts like a validation sandbox. Before spending hours scriptwriting and editing a 15-minute movie review, drop a 45-second high-energy Short on that exact topic. If the CTR and swipe-away metrics spike, you know the demand is there, and you can confidently produce the long-form version.

I got views from Shorts fast, but long form audience was not same. Good for reach, not always good for loyal subs
