[BEGINNER FRIENDLY METHOD] The Rank & Rent Formula: Create a Passive $XXX/Month Income Stream!

Hello, Opulentos, thanks for the guide.
I have an SAAS website with 4k clicks but just waisting it, if u are interested I would like to show u and maybe make a deal or something.

Have question about GMB listings.
As I understand correctly, I should have GMB listing for every dentist location page (for example Dentist in Upper Manhattan, Dentist in Lower Manhattan, Dentist in East Harlem, Dentist in West Harlem must all have GMB). Then I should pay money for some boys and girls in Upper and Lower Manhattan to confirm GMB addresses, right? Then I landing some deep pocket real dentist from Manhattan with his real office and real address, right? But then, in reality, GMB address on the page does not match my new client (deep pocked dentist) real address. Is it a problem and how to solve it, or I jus overcomplicating the things here?

You’re thinking like a legit business owner — this is black hat. You don’t need a GMB for every area page. One solid listing per city is enough. The rest rank off on-page.

Yes, you can pay locals to verify the GMB. But when you rent the leads to a real dentist, the address doesn’t have to match their office. They’re not buying the pin — they’re paying for calls.

If they ever want it moved or transferred, cool — upsell it.

Until then, keep control and keep the phone ringing

Great post Opulentos. Don't want to steal your thunder, but thought I'd share my rank and rent case study I just published on my blog. Built it and beat out huge entrenched companies in NYC pest control, fired a client, got a new client and then sold it for $90,000. This is OLD, but I just published it as I'm trying to document my work more for posterity. Hope it helps anyone looking to learn more about rank and rent.

Nice share. 10 year old case study is old though so a lot has changed in the SEO stratosphere but it’s still a wicked guide. $90k is nothing to scoff at

[BEGINNER FRIENDLY METHOD] The Rank & Rent Formula: Create a Passive $XXX/Month Income Stream!

In this guide, I’ll be going over everything you need in order to make the rank and rent system profitable as well as discuss the hidden tactics that other SEO’ers don’t use which can cost them sales.

I don’t want to waste any time on this guide so I’ll be getting straight to the point in a concise way.

Let’s begin.

What is Rank and Rent
If you are new to the world of rank and rent, prepare to have your mind blown. This particular system is practically rent money. Imagine owning houses and renting them out to tenants, except you don’t rent houses but websites instead.

If you have a website which is ranking on page 1 on Google, you can rent out your website to people who are interested in it for a fixed price every month.

Page 1 is a lucrative spot for majority of people online who are looking to increase their business, generate more customers and get more eyeballs to their site. Without ranking on page 1, you’re missing out on a huge chunk of traffic.
That’s why you come in with your proposition of renting out your page 1 rankings, and offer your clients a chance to get more customers/leads/eyeballs to their site in exchange for a fixed sum of money every month.

Is Rank and Rent profitable today?
Rank and rent was something that was created years ago and became widely popular in the SEO sphere. However, people decided it was no longer a good method to generate money, and that it had died out. This is further from the truth.

Rank and rent is still booming today in 2024, and in my experience, it’s probably one of the easiest ways to make money with SEO, second to lead generation.

Instead of cold calling businesses hoping one would believe you have the skillset to rank their website without any actual evidence, this system is a lot easier to sell to clients because the proof is already there. A first page ranking is more than enough to entice a business to hand over their money to you.

Below is the blueprint I use to rank my local rank and rent websites in different local niches which are insanely profitable. I will go through ways of choosing your niche, keywords, domains, hosting, and setting up the actual website and GMB listings. Let’s get started below.

Choosing your niche
When it comes to choosing your rank and rent niche, people always tell you to choose clients based on how much they are worth, and this is definitely true. You don’t want to target a business that makes $10 per sale with a profit of $6 because their margins are extremely low. Even if you create a rank and rent website for them, chances are they won’t purchase it simply because their profit margins are too low to invest in it.

You want to target businesses who can make $200+ per sale with a huge profit margin. These clients have the budget to invest in new leads and are more than happy to invest in your rank and rent website if it means more money in their pockets.

There are tonnes of high ticket clients you can choose, but from my experience, the easiest ones to sell to are:
  • Dentists
  • Landscaping
  • Homestaging
  • End of term tenant cleaning

These customers have high profit margins, and are always in demand due to their evergreen nature. You can either choose one of these or go for your own niches based on a criteria you follow.

As long as a business makes a nice profit from a customer, you can target them. It’s also important to make sure the customer LTV is high. A one time customer would not be of any use to a business unless the profits from the customer are high. A high LTV means customers keep coming back to the business and spending money. This results in the business being a lot more profitable in the long run so an investment in a rank and rent website would be easier to sell.

Keyword research
Keywords are extremely important for the longevity of your rank and rent website. Without choosing the right keywords to rank for, you are shooting yourself in the foot big time.

For example, someone may want to rank their local rank and rent website for “Homestaging NYC” because the search volume for it is high. What they don’t realise though is that a lot of other SEO’ers are also ranking for these keywords and trying to generate clients. A keyword like this would be medium to high competition due to the nature of the keyword.

If you want to stand a chance in the local rank and rent game, you need to dig deeper, a lot deeper. This means instead of trying to rank for “Home Staging NYC”, you dig deeper into the boroughs and target keywords such as
  • Home Staging Queens
  • Home Staging Brooklyn
  • Home Staging Manhattan
  • Home Staging Staten Island

But that’s not enough. You want to dig even deeper and rank for even localised search terms. Now you want to find and research keywords such as:
  • Home Staging Upper Manhattan
  • Home Staging Lower Manhattan
  • Home Staging East Harlem
  • Home Staging West Harlem

By digging deeper into each keyword, and each borough, you are generating traffic from extremely local terms which are not as competitive. This results in your rank and rent website being a high quality lead generator for these home staging companies because they’ll have a lot more clients to choose from.

Of course there’s more to keyword research, with keyword competition, PA, the website's ranking on the SERPS for the keywords etc. However, this should give you an idea to dig deeper into your keyword research when it comes to local cities you are trying to rank for. Don’t go for the basic generic cities which every SEO and his dog are trying to rank for as it’ll be extremely competitive.

You may be wondering why I haven’t mentioned any keyword research tools. Well it’s important to use one to get a feel for what you want to rank for, but based on my rank and rent websites, I have received hundreds of leads from keywords which are seen as 0 traffic on keyword tools. It’s important to use your own initiative when finding keywords. Put yourself in the position of a customer and imagine being in their shoes when looking for a service.

If you are looking for a home stager, and you reside in Brooklyn, you won’t be typing in “Home Staging NYC”, you’ll be going deep into the search intents typing “emergency home staging Brooklyn”.

What you need to look out for when finding local niches and keywords
When it comes to finding niches and keywords, it’s extremely important to understand the difficulty variances.
For example, trying to create a rank and rent website for “Attorney in NYC” will be extremely different to trying to rank for “Locksmith in Birmingham, Alabama”.

From past experience, the big states and boroughs tend to have the highest competition so anything for example, “Attorney in NYC”, “Dentists in California” etc will be much harder to rank than “Locksmith birmingham al 35242” which is considerably easier to rank for. This is due to the very precise location you are trying to rank for, as well as long tail keywords being used by less businesses.

However, the monthly traffic and leads will be a lot lower for these long tail keywords targeting very precise locations. This means you will need to scale the hell out of your rank and rent/lead generation sites/portals if you want to start making serious $$$.

For beginners new to the Rank and Rent model, I highly suggest going after long tail keywords such as “Locksmith birmingham al 35242” as these are extremely easy to rank for, and the leads are highly targeted meaning you can sell these instantly to local businesses in the area of operation.

If you rank for 10+ of these keywords, you’re on route to generate some serious $$$ from Rank and Rent/lead generation.

Choosing your domain
A lot of people here make the mistake of choosing the wrong domain and shooting themselves in the foot. The domain process should not be a difficult decision for you as it is a simple branding for your rank and rent site.

If we continue with the home staging example above, a lot of people would go for domains such as:

Homestagingnyc.com

There’s nothing wrong with this domain, however the problem is you’ve targeted a niche city and are putting all of your eggs in one basket. By having NYC in your domain, you’re relying on the rankings of this NYC niche to make you rank and rent sales.

This is definitely not the way to do it. From my past experiences, focussing all of my time on one city leads to failures, and time/money wasted on 0 rankings and 0 profits. The best way to choose a domain would be to have a domain like this:

Homestagingfinder.com

The reason why this domain works perfectly is because of 2 reasons. 1 is that you are establishing yourself as a brand. Secondly, you are spreading your eggs in different baskets, meaning your chances of success have vastly increased.

How?

Well, if you are ranking for the keyword “Homestaging NYC” with the domain “homestagingnyc.com, you are relying on the results of this website and keyword ranking.

If you don’t have the budget, nor the SEO skills to rank this keyword, it’s a failed project. However, with the domain “homestagingfinder.com, you can now do keyword research for any state, county, and borough in the United states and create multiple pages on your website. This means that by the law of averages, at least one will rank if you do everything right. This is how you properly scale a rank and rent website, and actually see results from your efforts.

Choosing your hosting
Hosting is incredibly important nowadays. It’s actually a ranking factor for search engines because a faster loading website is seen as important in the eyes of Google and customers.

If you have a slow loading website, you can expect a higher bounce rate, and lower rankings. This is something you definitely want to avoid if you want to rank and rent out your websites.
Avoid Namecheap hosting if you can. As much as I like their domains, their hosting is terrible. A domain registrar tends to make a bad hosting business. I avoid hosting from Namecheap and GoDaddy due to this.

The best recommendation is SiteGround. You can’t go wrong with this decision as SiteGround is seen as an extremely good hosting provider with insane speeds fast customer support.

Setting up your rank and rent website
Setting up your website is extremely important and must be done right if you want to scale this operation up and rent out multiple pages on your site.

Once you have the domain and hosting, it’s time to install WordPress. The theme you download and activate is not important as it’ll be a filler just to rank. You can use generic content themes which look modern and simplistic.

Any would do for a rank and rent theme. It’s not nearly as important as you may have thought. The only important part for rank and rent are the content creation, SEO and finding clients.

The first part you need to focus on is the content. Content is vital for a rank and rent business so you want to make sure you have the correct structure. Below is the structure you will use for the rank and rent local business.
Content Structure for homepage: The H1 tags should be something like the ones shown below with information spreading across a few paragraphs under each heading.

  • What is NICHE?
  • What Are the Benefits of NICHE?
  • Who Needs Our NICHE Services?
  • What Equipment Do We Use?
  • How Does the NICHE Processes Work and How Long Does It Usually Take?
  • What Is the Average Cost of NICHE?
Having these headings allow you to write out informational content about the niche so that users can see what they are buying, and whether it is the right fit for them. Notice how we don’t mention any geo modifiers in the headings? That’s because we want to keep the home page basic with the right information for buyers to see what the local niche is about.

The homepage should not mention any areas/geo modifiers because these will be mentioned elsewhere.

Pages: Now that you have the homepage ready, it’s time to add the geo modifiers. You will need to create a new page for every city you are targeting.

For example, using our previous home staging example, you will need to create pages such as this:

  • Home staging NYC
  • Home staging New Jersey
  • Home staging Florida
  • Home staging Miami

Create as many as you want, but in my personal opinion, you should only target 10-15 when starting out and growing it as you start ranking the website and renting out pages.

As well as this, you’ll need the main pages such as Contact us, Privacy policy, and About us to fill out.

Also, you will need to create a blog page. The reasons why are explained for the GMB listings section which you can read below.

TIP: Use Keyword Shitter to find long tail keywords for your local sites. Input a keyword like “homestaging NYC”, and it’ll show you hundreds upon hundreds of keywords you can use in your rank and rent website. It’s an UNBELIEVABLE tool, and best of all, it’s free.

Example of a Rank and Rent theme
Below is an example of a typical rank and rent theme that works. It includes a call to action above the fold, a big button, contact details, and the service + city location.

AD_4nXeQD2AlX-2sL2GlljEhsKZFdZvzhbuMCsqrIPf-Hh0Uxsm33T-7mkveNWWcGBKVWii60yelzimek-CRQdAHGa4AASl3uO6nIxnN4xgwgGdeKiw24gBNrK6dg_oEi7kEeMLiuZUJInzYp8NBv5IvVXQkesA

As you can see from above the fold on the rank and rent site, it’s pretty basic and modern. It has the main information including the service niche, the contact details and some call to action button.

AD_4nXeQNb7MP9aG2QuQeUIH-sG5fI8g3JUipRzEW-PnriundAQ_bMjZPLNzPNp1LHx5qRal8svVFTxs4vhfozyEB_RXpciKtGDO47ZbnH0pN0aUSIOuPD55tuORBNNL838Y--fdxbc6eFDHxiElZQ0pqEBCXw

Below the fold, we can see the nitty gritty. Though this is just a draft version of the rank and rent website, we can see that there is a Google maps plugin which shows the city the service is based in.

We can also see some images of the city, as well as bulleted lists of the service and what it entails.
This is where you can write the content structure shown above which should take over 1,000+ words with the subheadings.

The website should be modern, simplistic and easy to understand. You don’t want to be too complex with it. Remember you’re making a rental/lead gen website so you don’t want to portray any personality into it like you are an actual service company because if it doesn’t match the same vibes as a company you rent the website out to, it looks a little off.

I prefer sticking to a generic template which is made for conversions, and shows users what the service niche is, where they operate, and how to contact us.

That’s it…

Purchasing an email address
This part is something you may want to consider. It’s not extremely necessary, but I highly recommend it as it comes in handy later on during the selling process.

Let’s say you have a domain for a service niche. This is for a dentist in Manhattan.

If the domain is Manhattandentists.com, you should purchase a private email address for an additional $10. This investment will allow you to receive/send emails using this business.

Get one with a word such as Admin or support so the email is:

When you connect this to your website contact form, all messages will be sent to this email address. That means that you’re able to contact these leads, and sell them to local businesses who are able to help these customers.

Setting up GMB listings
This is the most hated part for rank and rent websites and lead generation sites. If you are trying to rank a local business niche on Google, you’re going to have to create these listings.

You may be thinking that this is impossible because you do not have a business address. Well you’re right, in order to do the rank and rent method, you will need a GMB listing.

What is a GMB listing? A GMB listing for those of you who don’t know is a Google My Business Listing. These listings are the ones you see for most localised search terms in something called the snack map/Google 3 map.

These are the results on the SERPS which shows 3 different businesses ranking #1, #2 and #3 on Google for “service (city)”.

For example, if you search for Dentists in Manhattan, you will see paid ads at the top, then the local 3 map which shows 3 dentists with their website, phone number, and other contact details, and reviews from customers who have used them.

One issue people have with this method is that if you want to rank in the SERPS for the map pack, you will need to have a real location which Google will verify and show that it’s a legitimate business.

This is fine for those who actually own a Dentist in Manhattan since they can sign up for Google GMB listings, verify their address and start ranking their local listings.

However, if you’re on the opposite end of the pond across the world, you may be wondering, how will I rank for Dentists in Manhattan, when I live in Paris?

Well you’re going to have to pay someone.

There’s 2 different methods in doing this. One is going to the HAF section on Blackhatworld or any forum that offers freelance work and pay someone there to create a GMB listing using their address.

Secondly, you can post on Craigslist offering someone money to create a listing using their address. It’s important to do this because Google will send a postcard with a code which will need to be implemented. If you have no address listed, it’s extremely difficult to rank on Google, either organically or through the snack pack section.

Fork out the $$$ which shouldn’t be expensive. You can find people for less than $20 to do this for you.

Once they verify their location, the GMB listing will be approved.

On the dashboard, you are able to view the activity, views, and clicks of your GMB listings, as well as create posts and generate interest.
AD_4nXdmXkoYKvdOLureqW2MBzi4seUikbr8VVM82M1QCL8CwWivO383vVnamH96p1xwEqfQxGUAHWQ_KIuCytgqbLXWLLYxpiQ3vMpJL32ruvpLN8P3-eeOXPJEXc5DJmkrCsx0A8XaH2lEVzm81xqXXQ1KA0w

As you can see from the screenshot above of the dashboard, you can see the views, searches and activity of a rank and rent website I used as a test and it is performing well.

This is from a new listing so after doing some GMB optimisation, the maps will increase in searches, as will the organic results.

Now it’s time to start ranking!

NOTE: As a rank and renter, you will want to rank for both organic listings and for the local Google 3 map. This is to ensure that you get leads rolling in to your rank and rent website.

Ranking your GMB listings
Okay, you have a rank and rent website, and you have a GMB listing. How do you rank the GMB listing? It’s easier than you think. You rank it just like you would a normal website!

When people create a GMB listing, they tend to brush it aside and focus on their website. Businesses always make this mistake but so do lead generators and rank and renters.

If you want to rank a local listing, you will need to be updating it constantly! How?

First of all, it’s important to fully flesh out your GMB listing. This means you want to ensure everything is listed towards the city of your choosing.

For your GMB listing, simply add images to the page, related to your niche and geo tag them. By geo tagging them, you are keeping the quality of the GMB listing consistent meaning you are showing Google that this is indeed a service operating in the city you want to rank for.

It’s easy to flesh out your GMB listing and show Google that it’s indeed a proper business in the city. Simply mention the city sporadically on the listing, and use the keywords you want to rank for i.e. Dentists in Manhattan occasionally. There is no correct % for how many times to use the keywords, but do not go overboard as it looks spammy.

Another TOP TIP I recommend for ranking GMB listings is to update your GMB as much as you can. The easiest way to do this in the most cost effective manner is to spend $10-$20 on articles related to your niche.

In the example of dentists, you could have content written for:
  • Top tips for keeping your teeth squeaky clean
  • How to stop bad breath in its track
  • Best ways to reduce cavities
Etc.

You do not need to purchase content, but if you want to speed up the process, it’s the quickest way. If you have a lot of time on your hands, you could simply write the content yourself.

I try and average 20 pieces of content. Contents range from 400 words to 2,000 words but I average 800-1000 words per article. These articles are not SEO optimised but are mostly for information. Once you have the content written, it’s time to update the GMB listings with these new content pieces once every few days.

When you can, update the listing with a link to a niche related article on the blog section of your rank and rent website.
This is to keep the GMB listings fresh and active, and to keep your rank and rent site looking active too. This helps a lot for the ranking process.

To add the content to your GMB listing, simply do this:
AD_4nXcZx6IvniSFWto9M68KbTDZ4vK-sOHjeJ5ofQERKEwchhth9JW6Vb0Me8TOERECdyvJR5cQBfI6CKJHDJ_qxxck2Q2IKmtSsTzAlj21O2_vGyd1jhuLXT6B4WRvZEym0yXjOZkOTImZADurtx94egQAueg

Go to your main GMB dashboard, and you’ll be greeted with this. On the left hand side, you can see a navigation bar. Go to posts and you’ll see the page above.

Once here, simply click the “Add update” button on the top and you’ll be greeted with this pop up.
AD_4nXcAmy5Tve8z5q2iAO--Phgq6Y6SJZ6pnO0oxAZvYU8D0RLresMzZl1AhVwoqhOa8OeIJwMg1_R-haRep88IFNt5oXcl2dtIamtJuXGze0-K-E4yjX86-JYIfLMXXsvfp0KeI3Hsce0gpsPwrwksiBjiLA

Here, you can create your post. I would suggest keeping it short, at around 100 words, with a link back to the blog article link on the Rank and rent website. You can use the Add button feature at the bottom as a CTA to increase the visitors click through rate to your rental site.

Getting reviews
Reviews are the lifeline for many businesses. Without reviews, customers wouldn’t know which services they should choose. By having social proof, you can convince hesitant customers to purchase through you as other customers have already done so and achieved great success because of it.

Because we’re going to create a brand new rank and rent website, we will have to go and do the black hat method of getting reviews because we cannot do it the organic way.

To get reviews, simply ask friends and family for a massive favour, and to leave a review on your Google maps page. Make sure you don’t exceed 4-6 reviews per day. I’d keep it as 10 per week to keep it on the safe side. It’s vital you do not trigger Google’s wrath by sending fake reviews to your listings so you’ll have to do it the right way.

Also, make sure you as the business owner respond to these reviews as from past experience, this helps a lot with future engagement and generating real customers within a short span of time. It also helps with rankings as Google sees you are an active business owner who engages with his clients.

Ranking your local rank and rent site

Now it’s time to rank your local website. This part is the easiest. You must take a scientific approach to it. You can’t go about it all bullets blazing. Doing that will mean your site will only rank for less than a month. You want to make sure your website lasts as long as possible, so you can milk the cash cow for a longer period of time.

This will be done in a 3 part process.
It is as follows:
1. Social signals
2. Diversity links
3. PBN links

These 3 are a killer combination guaranteed to rank your keywords. Once you have your website pages in place, you will want to bring attention to the website. You do this by getting social signals. This shows Google that your website is being shared on social media so its gaining traction. Google will then place focus on your website page, leveraging its social signals to get a higher rank.

After a week or 2, it’s time for the big guns. Diversity links are what will skyrocket your website rankings. I go for a user on Konker.io who does 230 diverse links with huge power behind them. This alone should skyrocket your rankings to the first 3 pages. Depending on your keyword research, it should be within the top 30 spots.

Now finally, you’ll need PBN links. This is the icing on top of the cake which will definitely take your rankings up to the top. You’ll be ranking in no time. It’s important that the PBN has a moderate to high TF rating to ensure the link is indeed powerful. Do not opt in for the quantity of PBN links, as those will tank your rankings within weeks.

In fact, the ranking is so easy, it’s not even the main part for me in the local SEO business. The hardest part is getting the clients, but I will show you how I do this, and what I send to boost my success.

Now that you have your ranking in place, it’s time to get your clients to rent the website leads to.

Getting your $1,000 per month client process

Once the website is ranking, and you have your lead generation in place, you will now want to find your clients to sell these leads to. To do this, you will need to type in your keyword on Google. For example, if your keyword is “Homestaging in NYC”, you will type that in Google.

As soon as you do this, you will go to page 2 onwards and collect the list of URL’s rankings. You will then go on each of the websites ranking and go to the contact us page. There you will find their email and other information like a phone number. The important info is the email address. Collect the URL and email and place them in an excel file.

You don’t have to create an excel report, but it’ll be easier for you to track which clients convert, and which ones don’t. Once you have your list, you will need to contact the business owners. Avoid contacting the emails with these in the email:
• Support
• Sales
• Team
These will usually get flagged for spam as majority of emails being sent to those types of emails is b2b sale related things.

You’ll want to get their personal email address which is
usually in the footer or the contact page. Now that everything is in place, you will now send them an
email. The email I send to them is:

Hey (name)
The reason I want to talk to you today is because there is a strong possibility my company can get you more clients in under 30 days.

If I could just do 1⁄2 of what I claim and get you an increased number of customers signed up, would you invest money to get more business?

If I could deliver the kind of results I am talking about, would you be willing to invest money in your website?

Regards,

Name

Why does this work?

For one, it is extremely blunt. You are not tiptoeing around the bush.
Second, you come across as someone experienced, and that its not their first rodeo.
Most local businesses know how hard it is to get clients and build your brand. Therefore the confidence shown that you can generate them clients could easily convince them to give you a shot.

Finding clients in 24 hours in your home city and closing your first sale GUARANTEED
Let’s say you decided to rank a local rank and rent page in your home city. Now what? Well you can almost guarantee a client within 24 hours and close a deal instantly. This one requires balls, but you and I both know that the only way to actually succeed is to grind your a** off.

If you expect to sit on your a** all day and hope to make $10,000, then this may not be for you.

Many people say you can cold call/cold email clients and generate clients this way. Well yes this is absolutely effective when it comes to scaling because chances are you want website rentals from those who live in a different city/country.
However, if you want to almost GUARANTEE a $XXX P/M sale right NOW, then you need to do this.

After ranking your website, and having it in a position where you can rent out that page in your home city, you’re going to want to take your laptop or smartphone, and dress up in a smart casual way.

Now you’re going to go to every business in a 10 mile radius who fits your niche.

For example, if you targeted a lawyer niche and have a page 1 rental opportunity for them, you’re going to want to walk down there to the law firm and go to the front desk.

Ask to speak to the firm manager in a confident manner.

Do not look away, do not act shy or show any signs of anxiety. You’re there to help them, they’re not there to help you. You can offer them more clients in a click of a finger, meaning they should be begging for your attention and time.

If the managers are not there, ask when you can talk to them and if they are free for a meeting. If they ask what it is regarding, you simply say:
“I have a bunch of clients who need lawyers, and I’m looking to send them your way”.

You will need to be prepared to be rejected in most cases, but you WILL generate rentals.

Let’s say after 3 lawyer firms, you land a meeting. You want to close a sale. How will you do it?

Well you have 4 opportunities to close a sale. First you will offer the firm a chance to rent out your entire website. If they operate in multiple cities, this would be the best choice.

However, let’s just say they operate in the city you live in. You will still offer a whole website rental for $x,xxx. This figure could be anywhere between $3,000 to $5,000.

The point of this is to throw them off. They do not want to part with this large amount of money. Luckily for them, you have a counter offer. You can get them clients in THEIR city for $xxx per month. This figure is now a lot more interesting. (Replace $xxx with $300-$500 per month depending on the niche)

What this does is convince them that you can generate them clients for pocket change. If they rent out your website for 3 months, and land 2 clients as a result of this, they could make upwards of $xx,xxx from big law contracts.

What’s the third opportunity then?

Okay let’s say they’re still on the fence about renting out the entire page for $XXX P/M, you can still offer to have their website/brand as a banner on that page, as the header, or part of the sidebar for a reduced cost such as $xx P/M.

This works PERFECTLY and to be frank with you, is the easiest way to close hesitant businesses. If you charge $97 per month for a banner to advertise their business on the ranked page, and you have 10 of these pages which also sell banner space, you can hit $1,000 P/M effortlessly.

It is easier than ever to close sales in person, because society as a whole have become cowards. Everyone is hidden behind their computer desk and mobile phones trying to close sales, so if you actually show up as a confident person who can generate clients for these people, you stand a better chance than if you were to just stick with conventional cold calling and cold emailing.

The fourth opportunity to close a sale for your Rank and Rent website is to simply sell leads. Your website should already be collecting emails from the fill out forms. If you are collecting emails but have not sold/rented out the site/banners,you can sell these email leads to a company. This will be an easier sell than renting out the site for some business niches. However, I always go in for the big sales pitches.

I think it’s a lot better trying to sell the site outright/renting it than selling leads on it as it’s more tedious and requires more effort, whereas the other methods are passive and require a lot less time investment.

Selling leads to businesses using PARASITES
Ah, the forgotten parasites. Only to be used and abused by game hack niches and people looking to rank movie download sites.
Parasites are a very unique way to generate rentals and leads for businesses however it is not very long term. If you want your rank and rent business to make $2,000+ per month consistently, have your own website which you rank and rent pages out to businesses.

If, however, you would like to supplement your earnings with a very unique lead generation method that could make you $xx per sale, then the parasites are your way to do it.

Now I’m not talking about your common parasites like Reddit, Facebook and Medium. In this parasite method, you will be focussing entirely on Academia!

That’s right. One of the most underutilized parasites at the moment is Academia. This nifty little parasite is by far one of the best ones on the market today for lead generation based on my past experiences.

It is incredibly easy to rank an Academia page as opposed to a Medium or Change.org parasite page because they have been abused by people to the point where I’ve noticed that it’s lost a bit of power.

Academia is a website where you can share academic papers to students on a variety of subjects. However, the only thing we’ll be using it for is to generate leads to then sell on to local businesses.

Academia offers you the ability to add files to the site which will be indexed on Google. We’ll be doing 2 different forms of ranking for this parasite page.

When you sign up for Academia and verify your email address and other information, you can hit the upload button at the top of the page and it will take you to this page:

Now you will click on “Choose files” and attach the word document that you will want to use.

Now obviously this part, we have skipped the main part which is to create the content.

What you want to do is write up a 1,000 word article on your keyword e.g. Dentists in Upper Manhattan” and upload the document to the Academia page.

Once you’ve done this, click on next and you will be greeted this page:

Click “Published work”.

Once done, you will now be prompted to enter some key information. This part is extremely important.

For the page title, add your keyword which in this example is “Dentists in Upper Manhattan,''

For the abstract, create a little 250 word article with the keywords placed systematically inside without looking spammy. At the end of the abstract, add a link to a landing page where users can click and be taken to a site where they input their name and email.

This could be done in a variety of different ways. If your budget allows it, you could create a professional landing page or a simple squeeze page for the dentist niche, where you can collect the users name and email.

Add the link to the abstract, and hit the “Save and finish” button at the bottom of the page. Once this is done, you can publish the document to Academia and have it be indexed on Google.

Once you do this, it’s time to rank your parasite!

Rank and bank with your parasite lead magnet

Once your parasite page is published with Academia, it’s time to send it sky high with backlinks. We know parasites can take a serious beating and still rank high without Google destroying its ranking. We’ll be using this to our advantage because with this page, you will be sending thousands of GSA links, contextual links, and social signals to this page.

Because of the nature of the page, it doesn’t matter how spammy the backlink profile gets. You want to rank as fast as you can, grab as many leads as possible from the #1 rankings, and then sell these to local businesses using the information above in the guide.

To rank, send a mix of GSA links which you can find on BHW, and SEOclerks. Filter by price, and find those in the $5-$20 price range. I would go for more links. The higher the number of links, the better it is for rankings.

Send diversity links too if possible. This is under the form of web 2.0 links, forum profile links, blog commenting etc. There are tonnes of packages on SEOclerks and BHW which offer this service so you can find these instantly.

Once you send links to these page, wait at least 2 weeks. It takes a while for these parasites to rank, but because of Academia being a little different as it is a document based site, I find it easier to rank for these client based rank and rent keywords.
That’s pretty much it when it comes to ranking these parasites for lead generation. Do not mess with the abstract content or title once published as this affects rankings, and could drop your rankings as evident by my own rank and rent failure.

Overlaying your rank and rent website

I would personally get a phone number tracked specifically for a certain niche, and when the site rents out, I would install a popup and make changes to it so that the name of the company shows, the phone number, and their website.

This way, the popup shows up and doesn’t affect the SERPS results for the content below. As well as this. It is also a free method until you have the funds sorted to get a plugin which overlays any website on top of yours.

Little nuggets to help increase conversions and generate sales
When you’re making the titles for the Google SERPS, it’s good to add clickbait titles to entice readers to click through to your website. I do this by adding words like:
  • The best choice
  • Local favourites
  • The best prices

That’s all in this guide,

I know it was incredibly short and concise, but that’s all you need to know, it’s not a hard process to follow, and once you get it right, it will start to generate you local SEO money.

Thanks for reading.
Thanks so much for this.

Question: Which exact services do you use for:
1. Social signals
2. Diversity links
3. PBN links

Which overlay plugin do you recommend? Some people say, its not a good idea to use an overlay plugin (in theory its a type of cloaking). Have you found this to work well? IMO its the easiest way, because you can rank an "ugly" website and simply tell the client, that the design doesnt matter because you are going to overlay their site on top anyway. Thoughts?

Thanks again!

Nice share. 10 year old case study is old though so a lot has changed in the SEO stratosphere but it’s still a wicked guide. $90k is nothing to scoff at

I agree

No problem man, glad you enjoyed the content
What about GMB verification now ~10 years later. How are folks still verifying AND is there an acceptable cap to the amount of GMBs one address can support without raising red flags?

I just found this post a couple of years late. A goldmine!

A question about GMB (GBP) verification. I understand that the standard today has shifted from postcard, to video verification (showing signage, premises etc.). So i wonder if it is still practical to get verification sorted by hiring people?
