Why Are My Reels Getting Mostly Indian Traffic Instead of US Traffic?

I have seen this happen even on accounts configured for the US My guess is Instagram tests content where engagement is easiest first If early viewers are interacting from India the algorithm may keep expanding there instead of shifting to US audiences
A lot of people overlook account history. Even if everything is set to the US, Instagram may still be testing your content with broader English-speaking audiences first. I've seen better results by consistently engaging with US-based creators and audiences before posting, so the account builds stronger US relevance over time.

What works for me (to reach US audience): USA Proxy (residential or ISP), Mobile emulator (better if physical device- iphone)
Set mobile emulators gps location in USA city (matching with proxy location). Set timezone correctly (matching with proxy location).
Set your Emulator's connection to never connect internet without VPN - This prevents your local IP leak. without this while you browsing on emu sometimes your vpn will disconnect and you will unknowingly browse with you local IP etc. If cannot properly configure gps location then just disable it.
In the end Emulator is never be as good as physical device.
Best option : physical fresh ios device and Modified router for proxy, esim or physical USA sim card.

the part nobody's saying out loud: the proxy sets where you look from, but the first seed gets pulled from your account's own graph, who you follow, who you dm, whose stuff you actually watch. if any of that history leans indian the proxy loses that fight every time. before i touch a single reel i spend a few days just watching and liking US content in feed until the suggested accounts flip american, that retrains the seed way faster than any device setting. trending US audio drags the audience with it too, original audio gives the algo nothing to geo-match on. how clean is the follow and engage history, was the account ever juiced with cheap followers early on?
