While researching Youtube SEO, I came upon the idea that there are 2 type of scenarios with any niche:
1) The niche has high search volume, and videos on top have 500k - 2 mil views with strong channels with 150k + subscribers. But upload frequncy is not that high
2) The upload frequency is very high, but videos ranking on top have 5-10k views usually from average channels. This scenario is usual especially in foreign "churn & burn" niches with crypto keywords for example.
From my experience ranking for 1) scenario is a bit easier with unlisted method + CTR views, I discovered that this still works.
The key here that the views are coming from different view channels (not 100% external for example, but spread between external, suggested, Direct etc) this usually gives more natural pattern. Also aim for 50-70% retention.
In our case we have managed to beat big channels with 300k subs and 500k - 1 mill views, with a small 500 sub channel for the keyword "make money online" and similar ones:
These are our ranks by VIDIQ directly after releasing video to "PUBLIC" , CTR views just started to be injected (like +20-30 views)
The video is pumped with 4000 views (mostly Real HR from different view channels) , 300 shares, 300 playlist saves, and 50 comments before being released to "Public" mode.
2 minute video length and we got like 1:15 min retention when released to Public mode.
Video is starting to move on top #1 for all keywords as we inject ctr views.
What I discovered here, the subscriber amount is not even a big indication of strength, there are various different factors in play when deciding "channel strength"/
