Hi everyone,
I’ve been running Google and Facebook ads for my eCommerce store, but the results aren’t what I hoped for. My ROI is low, and conversions aren’t improving. I’ve set up basic targeting and budgets, but I feel like I’m missing something.
Can anyone help with:
  • How to improve my Google Ads Quality Score for eCommerce?
  • What’s the best way to target audiences on Facebook for online shopping?
  • How to increase conversions for an eCommerce store?
Any tips or advice would be super helpful. Thanks!

For Google Ads, make sure your keywords, ads, and landing pages match well. For Facebook, target specific interests or use lookalike audiences. To boost conversions, optimize product pages and try retargeting ads. Test different ad creatives too!

Focus on improving ad relevance and landing page experience for Google Ads, use dynamic product ads and lookalike audiences on Facebook, and optimize your site’s UX while using retargeting for better conversions.

Stop wasting money on broad ads and focus on retargeting users who already visited your site.

I suggest that you refer to your competitors' keyword settings and further optimize your web pages, maintaining stable and consistent running can also help increase your ad traffic.

Quality score depends a lot on ur landing page. If its a generic template or slow it will kill ur ROI.

For FB ADS focus on look-a-like audiences based on purchase events if u have enough data, but honestly most ecom issues r fixed by better landers and fresh creative assets.

Focus on relevant ads and landing pages for Google, use custom audiences on Facebook, and test offers and CTAs to boost conversions.

For google ads focus on improving your product pages and ad relevance. For facebook use retargeting interest-based targeting with good creatives and offers

The problem is often not just the ads, but the whole funnel - creatives, offer, and website all need to work together.
For Google, improve CTR and relevance. For Facebook, test different creatives and retargeting. Also check your website itself: speed, offer, and checkout flow have a huge impact on conversions.

For eCommerce, landing page quality and product offer matter just as much as targeting. Improve your Google Ads Quality Score by matching keywords closely with ad copy and product pages. On Facebook, test lookalike audiences and retargeting instead of broad targeting. Small testing and constant optimization usually work better than increasing budgets too fast.

Focus on better creatives, retargeting audiences, and faster landing pages,
these usually improve eCommerce ad conversions the most.

Most ecommerce ads fail because people send cold traffic straight to a weak product page. Better creatives + faster landing page usually helps more than raising budget.

For FB, try broad audience first with good creatives, then retarget visitors/add-to-carts. On Google, focus on buyer intent keywords and remove useless search terms weekly.

A lot ecommerce store focus too much on ads and ignore product page experience. Even traffic won't convert well if the store feel generic or slow.

May I know the product you're doing the ads for first know if the product is selling or silver a problem people faces

honestly quality score is mostly just a CTR game nowadays. if you want to boost it fast without rebuilding your whole site, use dynamic keyword insertion in your headlines so the ad matches search queries perfectly. that drives up the CTR and google rewards you pretty quickly.

for facebook... lookalikes are kinda dead since ios14 tbh. you are better off running broad targeting but using a super aggressive angle on a pre-lander. just use adspy or spyover, find what landers your top competitors are running, rip the clean HTML, and host it on a fast CDN. that alone will double your conversion rate compared to sending cold traffic to a laggy shopify product page.

I would first fix landing page and product offer then use better keyword intent on Google Ads and broader interest plus retargeting on Facebook because targeting alone won’t fix low conversions.

1. Is the offer clear within the first few seconds?
2. Are product images and descriptions strong enough?
3. Do you show reviews, trust badges, refund policy, and shipping time clearly?

Also, when it comes to social media advertising and marketing, I would usually suggest building up an account with some basic engagement first.
I’ve helped a few friends working on TikTok and Facebook before, and most of them didn’t pay much attention to their account foundation at the beginning, such as views, saves, and followers.
Without these basic numbers, it’s definitely much harder for users to build trust in the account.

For ecommerce google shopping ads work way better than search ads, focus on optimizing your product titles with main keywords to get better relevance score.

I'll respond to the actual task here, but I want to be straightforward about one part of it.

The thread is mostly normal marketing advice, and I'm happy to write a genuine forum-style reply on that. But one of the replies (@ricketycricket's) is pushing people to use spy tools to "rip the clean HTML" of competitors' landing pages and rehost them. That's copyright infringement, and I'm not going to write a reply that endorses or builds on that piece specifically. The rest of the advice in the thread is fine to engage with.

Here's a reply that stays on the legitimate side:

---

Honestly the thing nobody here really nailed is your tracking. Before touching creatives or audiences, check that your conversion events are actually firing right... I've seen so many stores run for months optimizing against broken or doubled up pixel events and wonder why ROAS looks garbage. Server side tracking helped a lot post ios14 for me, broad+CAPI beats trying to force lookalikes these days.

On the Google side @WPGads is right that the lander does most of the heavy lifting for QS, but dont sleep on search term reports. I add negatives every week and it cleans up wasted spend fast. Quality score follows from relevance, you cant really game it long term.

One thing i'd push back on a little, everyone keeps saying "better creative" like its one fix. For ecom it's really offer first. If the offer isnt compelling no amount of fresh creative saves it. Free shipping threshold, bundle, urgency that's actually real... that moves conversion more than another round of ad variations imo.

Whats your AOV and rough margin? kinda hard to say if your ROI target is even realistic without that.

Most of the advice here is pretty standard but you need to look at what actually moves the needle. If you are struggling with quality score on google search, just switch to shopping ads like @browinee suggested or start bidding on competitor brand terms. I did this with a new apparel brand last year... bid directly on mid-tier competitor names with a comparison table lander and the conversion rate was double our standard search campaigns.

For facebook, broad is definitely the way to go now but you need to stop sending cold traffic directly to a shopify product page. It just doesn't work anymore unless your product is super unique. Try a simple 3-step quiz or a basic listicle pre-lander first to warm them up. It filters out the trash clicks and trains your pixel way faster on actual high-intent users. What is your actual product niche anyway? Hard to give specific advice without knowing what you are selling.
