As a beginner, I keep seeing mixed advice, some say build lots of backlinks, other say focus only on a few quality ones.
Is it really about quality over quantity now, or do both still depending on the niche? Curious how you guys are approaching backlinks today

Focus on quality over quantity. A few strong, relevant backlinks are more powerful than many low-quality ones, but in competitive niches you may need both.

Quality over quantity is still the main focus in 2026. A natural backlink profile with relevant, authoritative links works better than bulk link building.

For everything not just backlinks, quality is always better than quantity. Focusing on quality will help you achieve stable and sustainable growth.

Focus only on quality backlinks and maintain consistency so that you'll have quantity over time. If you focus on quantity and create a lot of low quality or spammy backlinks, it'll ruin your website authority.

Ideal scenario is to have large quantities of quality backlinks.

It's not either or.

Problem is that you could get your website punished for low quality backlinks.
Or at the very list don't get anywhere with rankings.

Okay, I think a lot of people just focus on the backlinks and forget the page itslef, because I have seen the pages with fewer backlinks ranking better because they are fullfilling the user need, I don't mean that backlinks don't matter but the backlinks alone can't decide the ranking

I think it really depends on your niche, but general I try to focus on getting a few strong trustworthy backlinks first. then, I slowly add smaller, relevant links over time. it feels more natural to google and safe than getting more at once.

I am learner yet, but in my opinion it is not really a matter of choosing quality or quantity. Both can play a different role depending on different niche and competition level. It depends on the requirements of the project.

Nah we are not overthinking it, backlinks still matter a lot. but the quality vs quantity debate really depends on your niche. low competition niches you can rank with a handful of solid relevant links. competitive niches like finance, legal, casino, you need both. quality AND volume. one DR80 link wont save you when your competitors have 500 solid referring domains. so the real answer is know your niche first then decide your approach. check what the top 3 ranking sites have in terms of backlink count and quality. match that then beat it. thats your actual target, not some generic advice about quality over quantity.

Backlinks are the most important parts of SEO, you can't ignore its important even in 2026. Even every website CEO should star the backlinks just after doing onpage seo and technical seo. It shows that its importance is increasing in 202t.

focus on quality. One solid editorial or guest link from a real, traffic-earning site is worth more than hundreds of cheap database links. For local or low-comp niches, you only need a handful of good ones to rank.

From what I've seen, quality usually wins. A few relevant links from trusted sites can do more than a large number of weak links. Of course, it depends on the niche. In competitive industries, you often need both good content and a consistent flow of quality backlinks. I try to focus on relevance and trust rather than just the number of links.

Its depend your niche but low quality pbn is risker today. Us link will you show google.

I think quality matters more than quantity now a few backlinks from trusted and relevant websites can help more than lots of low quality ones the right balance also depends on the niche but I would always focus on getting natural and relevant links first.

Do not trust fake SEO scores. Check if the website giving you a link actually gets real visitors from Google. If Google does not trust them with traffic, their link won't help you.

I do not think there is a single answer bcoz every niche is different. Rather than chase big numbers I would prefer a smaller backlink profile that grows organically. I also look at a link ability to actually bring real visitors not just be good for ranking. A backlink with value beyond SEO usually feels like a better investtment.
