For me, the biggest gains have come from improving existing content rather than publishing more. updating pages to better match search intent, strengthening internal links, and building topical authority have delivered more consistent results than any single link-building tactic.

For me, the best results are coming from publishing genuinely useful content that targets specific search intent, then supporting it with a few relevant contextual backlinks. Topical authority and content quality seem to be outperforming most shortcut tactics in 2026.

And just who is determining whether your content is 'genuinely useful'? All authority comes from third parties - it's not something you just add to your pages or manufacture on your own site.

Updating and expanding existing articles has me better returns than publishing brand new content lately. Some older pages had more potential I realized.

for me building topical authority has been the biggest winner creating clusters of related content improving internal linking and regularly updating older pages has produced better results than chasing lots of new backlinks

Using parasite SEO with high-DR web 2.0s and news is still the best way to go, but the trick for scaling is to use API's for automated People Also Asked (PAA) expansion. I've scraped longtail PAA questions down to three levels deep and filtered them for questions that have no search volume intent and added them directly into heads of the parasite web page. This causes Google to index them as featured snippets almost immediately before the algorithmic filters can catch on.

I'm seeing the biggest wins from just super aggressive edge caching. like, if the content isn't changing by the minute, why are we even hitting origin servers it's all about speed, and that's where the real gains are. forget all the fancy schema markup or link building nuances for a sec. get your cdn setup right, cache aggressively, and the rest of it just flows better. that's the core.

I think both are important but personal branding has definitely become more valuable in recent days. people often prefer to do business with someone they know and trust. Focusing heavily on building topical authority clusters has given me the best results lately. Grouping related content together helps Google understand your site's expertise much faster than targeting random keywords.

@Steptoe explained the most honest point here. content quality is determined by third parties not you. what i am actually seeing move rankings right now is the combination, tight topical clusters supported by niche relevant links from sites already ranking in the same space. topical authority alone gets you halfway. google still needs external validation that your cluster deserves to rank. the sites winning right now have both, deep content structure AND links from topically aligned domains. one without the other is slower than it needs to be.

My personal opinion is that building quality content (this includes proper keyword research, understand search intent etc), update that content from times to times and have consistency with publishing new articles is what gives the best overall results.
