Hi,I have been trying to grow a site using only white hat methods, writing original content, improving on page SEO , and avoiding shortcuts.
The problem is that progress feels extremely slow. Even after publishing consistently, some pages barely get impressions
can anyone guide me on this?

improving on page SEO
what exactly did you do in this regard?

Also, on-page SEO is not the only SEO that matters, you also need backlinks, technical SEO, good site structure and UX (mobile friendliness, site speed and easy navigation, easy crawlability and indexability, etc.)

Even after publishing consistently, some pages barely get impressions
probably not enough time had passed (google tends to put fresh sites in sandbox / limbo / whatever the hell it's called, until they gain enough trust and authority).

So, how much time has passed since you've made your site live and discoverable by google? And how much content do you have since we're at it, and which niche are you in? These things tend to matter, so please answer them...

By the way, from what I understood, the standard waiting time for a site to start ranking (assuming that all of the SEO checkboxes are ticked first, obviously) is 3-6 months, so if it's not 3 months yet and the other aspects are also not met yet you might need to wait more :)

The site is in the real estate niche and has been live for a little over 2 months now, with around 30 articles published so far.
I mainly foucsed on content, internal linking, and basic on page seo, so youare right that I need to give it more time and pay closer attention to technical seo and backlinks. Maybe I am expecting results too quickly.

Honestly that’s pretty normal for a newer site. White hat SEO can take time especially if you’re competing in a crowded niche, I’d keep focusing on content quality and make sure you’re targeting keywords that are realistic for your site’s current authority

One thing worth checking is whether you’re targeting topics that match your site’s current level, less competitive topics can often bring results faster

Yes, I am seeing slower results than before. White Hat SEO takes time to show results for newer projects. During my working I have seen same issue because my webpages are not indexed. Then I checked Google Search Console and indexed those pages.

real estate niche
ouch! So, basically, your competitors are big travel / real estate / home staging sites like Zillow, Realtor, etc... Yeah, good luck beating those multi-trillion companies with your fresh site, you're gonna need it :)

a little over 2 months now
not wanting to come across as being rude or offensive, honestly. But - from my previous experience - industries like real estate take at least 9 months (of CONTINUOUS work and money poured into the site) to take off, so - unless someone more knowledgeable comes here to correct me - I think that you won't see squat of traffic from google until 2027 at the earliest.

For your own good, I hope that I'm wrong, and I will pray that someone comes here to call me out on my bullshit, but I'm trying to set up realistic expectations for you so that you won't waste your time and money on this hard project.

with around 30 articles published so far.
that's a fair number for such a fresh site, so the content is not the issue IMO. What you need next is building up the trust and authority of your site, which means continuous effort in:

- publishing more content
- getting more traffic (outside of google ideally)
- getting those useless 3rd party metrics like DR and DA high (this comes with quality backlinks)
- getting plenty of quality RDs, continuously (these could prove to be very expensive, but since you want to operate in this industry I assume that you have at least a few $1000s per month to pour into backlinks alone, otherwise I think you should re-think your business idea)

youare right that I need to give it more time and pay closer attention to technical seo and backlinks.
I wish I weren't right, though. But it's google's fault, they love big, filthy rich companies, so they'll favor those whenever they can.

For your own good, though at least I hope that you've targeted really long tail keywords FWIW...

Maybe I am expecting results too quickly.
personally, I think so :)

But don't despair yet! Let's wait and see what others are saying, I've personally been out of this game for some 4 years or so, so I might be missing some new updates.

I’d keep focusing on content quality and make sure you’re targeting keywords that are realistic for your site’s current authority
content quality is not enough for such a brutal industry, man! He needs to focus on backlinks (really GOOD backlinks, and lots of them too, and those usually cost $1000s a pop, so...)

He needs to up his site's numbers (DR and RDs mostly), and trust (which god-knows what "trust" means anymore in terms of SEO. It used to mean social proof + high traffic + high DR, but with google's constantly moving goalposts we can't be sure anymore)

EDIT: also (and sorry if this seems a bit off-topic, personally I think that it's not very off-topic, and that it can give you an idea for future optimization of your real estate site... or for future projects...)

So, this post by @BlogPro made in December 2024 (so, roughly 2 years ago) is great on how to approach local SEO with a service-based site (which real estate sites could fall into with a bit of stretch of the imagination :p )... Anyway, give it a read, I promise it will be worth the 10 minutes spent reading :)

White hat SEO is slow, but it builds compounding authority that shortcuts never sustain.
