A lot of people still treat PBNs like a dumping ground for spun AI junk and expired domains with zero identity. That strategy burns fast now.
Good PBNs are not just about metrics anymore. The real difference is content quality + relevance.
A few things that still work well:
Write content that actually matches the niche of the expired domain
Keep articles readable and natural, not keyword-stuffed garbage
Mix informational posts with outbound authority links
Avoid posting 20 thin articles in one day like a robot farm
Build trust signals: About page, images, internal links, normal site structure
Google is getting better at pattern detection. If every PBN looks cloned, uses the same templates, and pushes exact match anchors everywhere, the footprint becomes obvious.
A clean PBN with decent content can still move rankings.
A lazy PBN becomes an expensive cemetery for backlinks.
Quality > quantity. Always.

Totally agree. The spin and dump strategy is an absolute burn fast now. If a PBN site doesnt look like a real biz with a distinct identity, natural anchor text distrubution and genuine content relevance,it is just a ticking time bomb. Quality over quantity isnt just a preference anymore, It is a survival requirement for link building.

The footprint issue is what gets most PBN operators in the end. It's rarely the links themselves but the patterns. Same hosting blocks, identical site structures, zero social signals, and content that reads like it was written by someone who has never actually visited the niche.
The expired domain point is underrated too. People chase DA/DR numbers without checking whether the domain's historical content even aligns with where they're pointing links. A domain that spent five years covering gardening tips doesn't magically become a credible source for a fintech site just because the metrics look clean.
The "real business feel" standard is a good mental filter. If a site would embarrass you if a client accidentally found it, it probably isn't doing your rankings any long-term favors either.

Exactly.

The biggest mistake people make is treating PBNs as backlink machines instead of real websites.

It's only a matter of time before it loses effectiveness.
