Indexing issue with Homepage

Hi everyone,

I’m facing an issue with my website related to indexing and need suggestions from everyone that is this an issue or just a normal glitch.

Issue details:
  • My homepage is indexed in Google Search Console.
  • GSC shows the homepage as valid and indexed.
  • But when I search using site:domain.com, the homepage is not appearing in the SERP results.
  • Other pages are showing, only the homepage is missing.
I already checked:
  • No noindex tag on homepage
  • Homepage is included in sitemap
  • Canonical tag is correct
  • Internal linking is fine
Note: My keywords are performing well till Sep 2025. But at that time my website is appearing sometimes with www. or sometimes without www. So that why that time I had redirected my all urls from without www. to with www. urls. and after that My ranking staring falling slowly. And now after almost 8 months. My homepage targeting keywords now come in 4, 5th page which are coming at top 5 position till Sep 2025.

So I’m confused about is this due to redirection issue and why Google is not showing the homepage in site: search results in top even though GSC says it is indexed.

Please share your thoughts on this

Looks more like a canonical or redirect consistency issue than a GSC glitch. If Google previously saw both www and non www versions, the redirect change may have caused signal consolidation problems. I’d recheck redirects, canonicals, and whether Google is still indexing both versions separately.
 
No right now only www. page is indexed. Non-www page is not index

If Google previously indexed both www and non-www versions, the redirect change may have confused signals for a while. Also, <span>site:</span> search isn’t always reliable for checking true indexing.

I’d double check:

  • all internal links use one version only
  • canonical + sitemap match the final URL
  • no mixed redirects/chains
  • homepage has strong internal links/backlinks
Sometimes it just takes time for Google to fully consolidate signals after a domain-wide redirect change.

This doesn’t always mean the homepage is deindexed. Google’s site: operator is inconsistent sometimes, especially for canonicalized or strongly redirected URLs, so pages can be indexed but still not appear normally in site: results.
 
This may be related to the www and non-www redirection changes. Sometimes Google takes a long time to fully process domain version changes, especially if signals were mixed earlier. Also, site: search results are not always fully accurate, so missing homepage there does not always mean deindexing. Check if all redirects are proper 301 redirects, canonical tags match the final version, and backlinks point to the same preferred domain version.
 
This is likely a canonical and redirect consolidation issue from the www migration rather than a simple indexing glitch, and although GSC says indexed, Google may still be treating the homepage as a duplicate or less priority version due to mixed signals, incomplete redirect consistency or lost link equity.
 
This Looks More Like A Canonical/Redirect Consistency Issue Than A Normal Indexing Glitch. I Would Recheck All www vs non-www redirects and inspect The Homepage URL Directly in GSC.
 
Could be a redirect/canonical trust issue after the www change. If GSC shows indexed but site: doesn’t, I’d also check index bloat, duplication, and whether Google is picking a different canonical version of the homepage.
 
  • This does not necessarily indicate that the homepage has been removed from Google’s index. The site: operator can sometimes return inconsistent results for canonicalized or redirected pages.
  • In many cases, pages remain indexed even when they fail to appear in site: searches, particularly where redirects or canonical signals are involved.
  • Google’s site: search should be used as a general reference rather than a definitive indexing check, especially for URLs impacted by canonicalization.
