I want to learn Facebook Ads, but I don’t really know where to start from. Everything in Ads Manager feels confusing at the beginning, and I’m not sure what should be learned first like campaign setup, targeting, or creatives. I’m also not clear if I should just start testing with a small budget or learn the basics properly before spending money. So I just wanted to ask how others actually started and what helped them understand Facebook Ads in a practical way.

Honestly, most people learn Facebook Ads by doing, because Ads Manager feels overwhelming until you actually run campaigns and see how the pieces connect.

A good starting point is understanding the basic structure first:
campaign = objective,
ad set = audience/budget,
ad = creative.

Once that clicks, things become much easier.

learn the basics first before spending money, start with campaign structure, then targeting, then creatives, Meta Blueprint is free and actually good, once you understand the logic then test with $5 to $10 a day and learn from real data.

Don’t spend too much time only watching tutorials. Create a Business Manager, install the Meta Pixel, and start testing small campaigns with $5–10/day. Once you understand the difference between campaign, ad set, and ad, everything becomes much easier. And focus on creatives – they matter more than targeting in most cases.

I think you could start by going through some basic tutorials, but don’t limit yourself to just the tutorials. Once you’ve learned a bit, try running small-scale campaigns with specific questions in mind—this will help you understand things much better.

When I was learning, I've started with basic tutorials on youtube + some lessons from Facebook Blueprint, then gradually moved on to creating my own small-scale campaigns. I think it's best to get some understanding about how Ads Manager even works and what you can do at each level of campaign (campaign lvl, ad set, ad) before you create your own campaign. Learning this won't take you very long (just don't fall victim to endless watching-tutorials cycle) but will help you avoid some setup mistakes that can cost money.

Also, go to Meta Ads library and check all brands similar to the one you want to advertise. See what types of creatives they use, how they writer their copy, etc. Save ads that you like and think how you can adapt some of approaches used in them to your own case.

If you're starting with facebook ads first learn basics like campaign setup, objective, targeting and tracking from meta ads manger, then start testing small budgets instead of directly jumping into advanced strategies.

Honestly, just watch some free youtube tutorials and start a $5 test campaign to learn the ropes.

I think you could obtain an ad account first and then follow along with relevant tutorials to guide you through the process.
This approach helps you retain info better than simply watching tutorials.

The interesting part is that different ad types teach different skills fast. Curious what outcome interests you most right now, messages, leads, sales, or traffic?

I started same way, everything in Ads Manager feels confusing at first. I just went with small budget testing and learned step by step from real results instead of trying to understand everything in theory first.

Start by understanding campaign structure, targeting, and creatives step by step , once you understand the basics, testing with a small budget and learning from real results is a smart approach.

Start small and learn by doing. Pick one campaign type, $5–10/day, test a few creatives, and watch results. Don’t overthink targeting at first, grab broad audiences and tweak. Ads Manager looks scary, but the basics click once you see data. Learn as you spend, not just from guides.

OMG base on my experience, just go for it, just run ads and u can get experience on your own and you will know how to run effectively. That's the most effective and cheapest way to do bro honestly

Learn the basics first, then test with a small budget. Don’t overcomplicate it at the start. Understand campaign objective, audience, creative, pixel, and budget. Then run a simple $5–10/day test with one offer and a few creatives. Most beginners lose money because they test too many things at once, not because Ads Manager is impossible to learn. Also keep your account setup clean from the start.

This is actually really helpful, I never thought about studying competitor creatives before running my own ads. But how do you decide which elements to copy and which to ignore? Like how do you know if their approach is actually working for them or not?

Mainly focused on leads and sales right now. But I'm confused, should I start with lead ads directly or run traffic campaigns first to warm up the audience?

Start with the basics: campaign objectives, audience targeting, creatives, and how to read key metrics. Once you understand those, run small-budget campaigns to gain hands-on experience.

The best way to learn is by combining theory and practice. Take the time to understand how campaigns, ad groups, and ads work first, then run small tests with a budget to see real-world data.
