Everyone thinks TikTok marketing means creating videos. Making content. Learning trends. Dancing.

No. The highest-ROI TikTok strategy for indie app developers in 2026 involves zero video creation. It's commenting.

Not spam commenting. Not "Check out my app!" on random videos. Strategic, valuable commenting on videos where your target users are already watching.

Here's the full breakdown.

Why Comments Beat Content on TikTok

Creating TikTok videos takes time. You need to plan the content, record it, edit it, add captions, choose the right audio, post at the right time, and then pray the algorithm picks it up. Most indie developers' videos cap at 200 views and die.

Comments are different. A single comment on a viral niche video gets more eyeballs than your entire TikTok account ever will.

Consider the math:
  • A video with 500K views has an active comment section
  • Top comments on that video get 5K–50K views
  • Your comment includes your username, which links to your profile
  • Your profile bio has your app link
One well-placed comment on a trending video can drive more traffic than a month of creating content. And it takes 30 seconds instead of 3 hours.

The Psychology of TikTok Comments

TikTok's comment section is its own social network. People scroll comments for entertainment, validation, and information. The comments that rise to the top follow a specific pattern:

They add context the video missed. If a video says "Here are 5 AI tools for productivity," and you comment "Number 3 is good but if you need something specifically for [use case], there's a tool that does just that — it's in my bio," that comment is adding value. It's not spam. It's a recommendation.

They share a personal experience. "I was struggling with this exact problem last month. Ended up building a tool to solve it. Works way better than what's shown here." People love real experiences.

They ask a smart question. "Has anyone tested this with [specific scenario]? I built something that handles that edge case." This positions you as an expert, not a promoter.

They're funny or relatable. Humor gets likes. Likes push comments to the top. More people see your username. More people check your profile.

Finding the Right Videos

This is where most people fail. They comment on random trending videos. That's like putting a billboard in the wrong city.

You need to find videos where YOUR audience is watching. Here's how:

Search by problem, not product. Don't search "SaaS tools." Search for the problem your app solves. If you built an expense tracker, search "freelancer taxes," "tracking business expenses," "side hustle money management."

Follow the right creators. Find creators who make content for your target audience. Follow them. When they post, comment early. TikTok's algorithm heavily favors early comments, a comment posted in the first 30 minutes has 10x the chance of becoming a top comment.

Monitor trending sounds and hashtags in your niche. When a trend hits your niche, every video using that trend is a commenting opportunity. Set up daily checks for 3–5 relevant hashtags.

Look for "listicle" videos. Videos titled "5 tools for X" or "Best apps for Y" are goldmines. The comment section is full of people actively looking for solutions. Your comment suggesting your app fits naturally.

The Commenting Framework

Every comment you write should follow this structure:
  1. Acknowledge the content — Show you actually watched the video. "This is solid but..."
  2. Add your angle — Share your experience or perspective. "I was dealing with this and found that..."
  3. Soft mention — Reference your solution without being salesy. "Built something that handles this differently — link in bio if anyone's curious."
Never write:
  • "Check out my app!"
  • "Download [app name] now!"
  • "Visit " [*]Anything with emojis that look... the comments where the attention already is.

this is good. one just have to be careful about the comments but even at that, i still salesy comments and nothing happens to them like tiktok does not touch them. but yet when you try to post some, one gets warning but this your tips gives a new insight

Write like a person, not a marketer. Because on TikTok, people can smell promotion from a mile away.

The Volume Game

Here's what a consistent TikTok commenting strategy looks like: Daily commitment: 30 minutes per day. That's it. Target: 15–20 thoughtful comments per day across 20 videos. Profile optimization: Your TikTok bio should have a clear one-liner about what your app does + a link. Keep it short. "I build tools that help vibe coders get users → link below." Expected results (first 30 days):
  • 450–600 comments posted
  • 20–50 comments will gain significant traction (100+ likes)
  • 5–10 comments will become "top comments" on popular videos
  • Profile visits from comments: 200–500
  • App visits from profile: 50–150
  • Sign-ups: 10–30
That's 10–30 users from something you can do while watching Netflix. And unlike content creation, it compounds. Your best-performing comments keep driving traffic for weeks.

Advanced Tactics

Reply to your own comments. When someone replies to your comment, respond. This creates a thread, which gets more visibility. If someone asks "What tool?" reply with details. Every reply bumps your comment. Use your own videos to amplify. Once you have some profile traffic, post ONE video per week about a topic related to your app. Not a demo but a value video. "3 things I wish I knew before launching my app." Your commenting activity drives people to your profile, where they see both your bio link AND your content. Pin a "link" comment on your own videos. When you do post a video, comment on your own video with the link and pin it. This is TikTok-acceptable self-promotion because it's on YOUR video. Collaborate in comment threads. Find other indie developers commenting on similar videos. Reply to each other's comments. Boost each other. This isn't manipulation And it increases visibility for both of you. The hardest part of this strategy is finding the right videos, writing comments that don't sound robotic, and doing it consistently. The developers getting traction on TikTok in 2026 aren't the ones making content. They're the ones showing up in the comments where the attention already is.

Did you got any success with any affiliate program with thick trick?

Your sharing is really great; it helps me broaden my horizons and provides more direction for content creation. I can invest more in comments and videos, which could help my account gain more followers. I will practice and follow your advice.

Yeah just dont sound too spammy, never paste more than 3 of the same comments at once, get some variations with AI and then you can post 30x a day

Did you tested that yourself?
How was the result?

Define "great" though. How much traffic did you obtain with this, and with how many comments, +/- ?
Direct traffic to my website reached 1,000+ monthly just from Tiktok comments, takes around 5-10 comments daily for weeks on end to snowball.
There is no such proof , so this thread doesn't make any sense

Comment strategy can work but only if the comments are actually useful
Droppinggeneric comments orobvious promo lines usually gets ignored or flagged. What works better is finding videos in your niche, leaving a real comment that adds value, and making people curious enough to check your profile. The profile also needs to be set up properly. If your bio pinned videos and link don’t match the comment angle the traffic won’t convert.

I wonder how hard would it actually be to bot comment likes on tiktok, I can see this being quite the gold mine
