[Journey] Building an iOS & Android App Empire

Guys, it is very important to understand how you approach your app and the marketing.

There is a big difference between "ASO apps" and "Social First Branded Apps".

For ASO optimized apps you usually do the following:

- keyword-rich title, no branding in the title
- Subtitle full of high-intent search terms and keywords
- Screenshots showing solutions not features
- Features made specifically for keywords

For "Social First Branded Apps" you would do this:

- brandable name (short, easy to type and remember)
- visually attractive UI
- sharing built into core experience
- community features important
- app icon designed for recognition

The ASO app gets almost all downloads from the app store search. You just need to rank for the keywords and won't do any other marketing.
The branded apps won't get much app store traffic at all, but from social media like IG, TikTok, etc.

Why is this important?

Do not make the mistake to try to believe a "Social First Branded App" will give you a lot of organic traffic through the app store search. You either make an ASO app to go all in on keywords (if the keywords are worth it!) or you start a branded app and get your traffic from social media.

now lets get a bit more into detail:

For ASO apps:

- do the keyword research before you start making an app
- target keywords with high volume + low competition
- build features targeting exactly those keywords
- screenshots should directly target these keywords (first screenshot should include your main keyword!) other screenshots should include other keywords
- make sure to optimize every character of metadata (title, subtitle, keywords). For subtitle and keywords, do not use any word twice. Do not leave a space behind the commata. Do pure keyword stuffing.

For branded apps:

- create a brand identity (app icon, specific colors, name)
- important: design for the "wow factor"
- user experience should be super easy, but app should still look attractive and modern
- focus on distinctive brand recognition, people should remember your app
- make sure to rank your brand name on the app store (so people will find your app when searching for the name!)
- make every interaction feel screenshot-worthy
- it is very important people will remember your app name and icon, because they will see it on tiktok and search for the name

what app to build?

if you have no budget: go for ASO apps

if you have amazing marketing skills (we are on BHW, so you will have): go for branded social first apps

if you have a lot of budget: go for branded social apps because you can just make paid ads

We are on BHW. This forum is full of account sellers, blackhat techniques, etc. if you are smart, you will find a way to market the shit out of your branded app (or SaaS). For example: Buy 100 tiktok accounts, 4g mobile proxies, find a way to generate content, get yourself a bot or automation tool and start spamming the shit out of these accounts. People are doing these strategies with blackhat CPA niches. Why not do it with real sustainable apps?

let us know , how you new apps goes with revenue stats really help , i made new app but with apple boost also no one subscribed i made 3 paywalls , its sad to see but whatever ;)

Update:

I just found a real gold mine of traffic. Got 15k downloads from one specific tier 1 country for free. Real users. Just alone the 15k downloads would be worth a shit ton of money, probably $20k or more. I did this for one of my new apps and the effect of the amount of downloads were crazy. I am not done with this yet, so I can only show you this so far:

Screenshot 2025-05-28 at 10.40.44.png

Look how many keywords started ranking. Top 1: 182. Just because of the crazy amount of downloads so many keywords starting ranking on #1.
Now I am trying this exact method for other countries as well.

So here are key observations so far:

- The sheer amount of downloads has a huge impact keyword rankings
- Even if you get 15k downloads ONLY from one specific country, you will also rank in other countries as well

I will let you guys know how it goes.

did you promote it this new app in any way before ranking like this ?

Wow, this journey has been amazing. I'm very proud seeing people succeed in building apps and monetizing them. I've always wanted to go all in on apps/coding, but it's so much and for me right now it's not worth it. It's great following your journey!

Congrats! Did you find anything related to the Tiktok automation? How do you plan to automate them? API/BAS/ local device farm?

I will probably buy accounts here on BHW. Then, get a tool for autoposting. This is the low quality choice.

At the same time, I will do also the manual work.

Right now, here is my set up:

- iPhone 14 Pro (my main phone)
- iPhone 7
- iPad

and then, today i just bought:

- iPhone SE (2nd gen)
- Phone SE (2nd gen)
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone XS

bought them all on ebay. secondhand phones all priced between 50-80€.

So in total I have 7 devices. Why Apple/iOS? Because TikTok can collect way less information on iOS.

Short overview of what I am going to do:

1. Erase iPhones (factory reset + update)
2. US / German phone number (I am in Germany right now, so its easy for me to target Germans)
3. A new email
4. US/German apple id using 2&3
5. US VPN (always check IP on Scamalytics (<60)) or just my German IP
6. First tiktok account i create on each device is signed up using a phone number
7. No profile changes on the day of sign up
8. 3-5 days of warming up the accounts
9. Fill profiles
10. Posting daily

- 1 video per day
- not more than 3 accounts per device (for some i will add one more account later on for testing)

UPDATE

Earnings Update:

Total Profit: $23000 in total from IAP (2 accs) and two Admob accounts.

Earnings were slightly higher last month even tho I didn't spend that much money on advertising.

Apps:

Last month I spent most of the time updating existing apps and I also published one new ap which made me around $400 in 2 weeks so far.

- Right now working on two other updates for apps (hoping to improve the conversion rate)
- After this I will try to publish 3x apps this month. Just trying to get it done as fast as possible.

Right now I totally focus on AI apps. Why? Because they are by far the easiest. A lot of "AI wrapper" apps are going viral right now. For example Cal AI, where you count calories. Another one is AI Plant Identifier apps, and so on. Its super easy to make and also fast.

Marketing:

I bought 5 iPhones, created 3 TikTok accounts per iPhone. Right now I am warming them up and started posting already on 2 accounts. First I make one video per day.

Also, I mentioned I used a method to get around 20k downloads from Germany, Spain and France for free. My app was even #3 above Google Gemini, etc. in the App Store charts. Unfortunately, I can not go into detail WHERE I did this, because these people will probably read it and it will get the method ruined. However, I can say: It involves that you make a premium feature of your app for free temporarily.

Here is my coding setup:

- Cursor Pro
- API keys of Google (for Google Gemini Pro 2.5), Claude and OpenAI
- Xcode (for iOS apps)

To create modern app icons, I use the following image:

GtFgsQ-XAAAFQtT.jpeg

uploading it to ChatGPT and giving the prompt: Create asimilar style glass morphism app icon for my iOS app XYZ with the gradient background colors XYZ. The foreground should have XYZ symbol

So far only making iOS apps. The last time I uploaded an Android app was 2 years ago.

But I will probably soon make Android apps of my highest earning iOS apps.

Hey, great thread. Question: For google play I already blocked the countries you mentioned that are problematic and report an app for no reason, but is it necessary to do the same for iOS? I didn't have any problems so far by not blocking those countries on iOS, but I just want to make sure I won't have any issues in the future.

Nope, not necessary for iOS.

Why? Because on iOS the Apple staff is manually checking the app if there are mass reportings. On Google Play however, it is not manually, its some AI or algorithm that automatically removes/suspends your app...from my experience.

It's been an amazing journey so far, and congratulations on exceeding the $20k monthly profit!

Regarding the APIs, do you use them for coding as well, or only for Cursor Pro?

I’ve tried both Gemini and Claude, but sometimes they both fall short, which leads me to jump between them. Often, I end up doing the work myself anyway. I would appreciate it if you could share your work setup.

Thanks, and good luck moving forward!
