Well no doubt that it can definitely help if you anchor it. It will help you rank in certain keywords but not necessarily high. It's a good start and you can definitely build from there.

Spamming backlinks is considered blackhat, which is why google devalued TBPR and those links for a while now. I think when google finds out and consider your backlinks as spam, those links will be devalued.

What do you mean by dropping links there? Creating a few blogs all over the internet and link it back to your site? I don't think that works well if the blogs you created have no pagerank, it'll just be treated as link spam.

It seems like it's a rich snippet? Google won't necessary show the meta description, if they think one part of your site is more relevant, they will show that part in the snippet instead of your meta description.

Hmmm.. i rank #1 in 2 keywords (singular and plural for the same phrase, ie. blue widget and blue widgets) with a combined number of 50k monthly searches and yet i only get 5k monthly clicks from there. It could be worse for a site ranked 4-8.

why not change your page into a cute/hot/sexy girl page and get people to like it? You'll get plenty of dudes and girls liking your page in no time. At the end of it, just change the details back to what you're originally promoting. =)
