The problem is, Low competition means there aren't a lot of advertisers wanting to advertise for that keyword. If you did rank this site, google wouldn't be able to show appropriate ads so your CPC would be much lower that $2 because the ads that would show up would not be for that keyword. Also...

Not really since, it's the advertisers, that are paying for the clicks your site could potentially get, if no one bids on the keywords, then your cpc will be shocking and you won't get any ads displayed

From my experience, the pictures, with the link as a description may well get a lot of interaction but the link will get barely any clicks, i find when i just post links, i get way less reach but up to x500 more clicks so i guess you just need to test and see what works best for you.
