I guess sites that are selling a service, leads whatever aren't a guarantee since there are third parties involved. If it's just adsense, adx, etc. then the sales are based on traffic and not on an agreement with a third party.

I wouldn't discount a popup unless you test. I thought the same but didn't see a higher bounce rate and increased my signups with one. Also added email signup on FB tab.

I use fb ads to get my fb pages started. Nobody is going to like a page with no likes. But I focus on a very targeted group and add slowly. Now that fb is limiting organic reach I have to do more often but I also add content, share others, etc.
