I think this one makes sense. A lot of not so famous tlds might cause people to doubt the site. Sometimes, not even bother click or visiting them.

You can try to use social media and forums that have the audience you need. It might be time consuming but if you got in the right group or forum, then you won't have any problem making traffic from the locations you've mentioned.

Well, if it worked for you the first time, then why not revert it back again to "comeback" to top 3? If it's just link position in description. then I think it doesn't matter where it was before as long as you're hitting a high rank?

I had mine under My business and verified it. Google sent over snail mail to my location (the one where I pinned my location) and typed on the code that was in the letter. A couple of minutes later, I had data of my business on the side of google.

I guess all the mentioned methods still work, it's just that their traction differs now. As most mentioned, blog commenting and guest posting have the most traction if done right or is most efficient.
