I just go for the one that has better metrics most the time (subdomain, url), never had any problems with it. Make sure that non-www/www are redirected to the domain itself to keep the link juice.
I would not recommend a service out here, by the way you speak looks like your very careful of your site. If so then I would recommend you building your own PBN. So you have control over your own links.
