You can do that if you'd like but if you are already in the process of replacing words you might as well just "properly" rewrite the article. It might even save you time at that point, only takes 10 minutes depending on length for a full rewrite.

Good luck on your journey! My journey is slow moving too, it's good though. Learn at your own pace. But always have a plan for the next day, if you can't think of a strategy, throw together some things that will help you in the long run (creating articles, keyword research, etc.).
