Since HCU, small-scale blogging is dead.
You'd be better off starting a YouTube channel or your own subreddit as the new blogging platform. Google won't rank your little website unless you pay for ads or expensive backlinks and absolutely nobody except bots will find your site from page 6 on...
A few decent enough backlinks in the mix can paint a "natural looking" link profile and, really, the few decent enough ones is all that's needed to get G to trust the site (pretty much a requirement since HCU). The toxic junk Google will simply ignore (unless the footprints were far too...
I was about to say, backlinks are the solution.
Since HCU, the only thing that matters is authority (derived mainly from backlinks).
Content (capacity, quality, etc) stopped mattering since AI can simply mass produce it now at a decent enough quality (filling the search intent) and Google...
Google is moving in a direction where blogs are being phased out.
Right now Google is pushing every1 to Reddit. Reddit in turn will feed Google's AI with source information which would allow them to finally (perhaps) launch SGE.
Let me see...
Google was not happy with small publishers trying to gain authority through a) expired domains, b) more relevant content creation en masse with AI, and c) parasite SEO.
Gotcha.
Every ranking dominated by Forbes (or equivalent) and Reddit (or equivalent). The writing is literally...
Probably.
The only sites of mine that survived the gas chamber had very strong organic backlinks. I never built any myself, so the sites that didn't get so lucky as to get random high authority backlinks just got disappeared by Google due to lack of authority. Prior to HCU, all my sites ranked...
Since HCU, Google SERP has largely become a shopping cart for buyer intent and information carousel for informational intent keywords. Check the current types of sites ranking for your target keyword(s) to see to what extent is that the case for your keywords. Also, the SERP's overall layout...
Every1 and their environment are different.
Luckily, I don't need 6 figures to live like a king here (figure of speech). 5 figures per year and it already felt like paradise with 0 stressors full-time entertainment (got to buy a house, without a loan, and almost everything else to last for a...
This all (including the comments that came after) pretty much implies that niche blogging is indeed dead and it'd be better to move on to direct marketing where the "niche blog" running on fumes can serve as a mere landing page.
The suggestions are also seemingly based on what worked pre HCU...
Such an approach relies way too much on luck or takes too long (takes time to readjust principles you're grown up with, etc. As an analogy - you don't just murder some1 and call it yet another Tuesday).
If I was down with doing things outside my comfort zone (outside perceived ethical...
Problem is though, I already was in low competition niches...
HCU changed the search intent in a way where my micro-sub-niches were lumped together with the big niche. The giga sites already had written the "best" type listicles for that niche, but they never ranked high enough to matter...
I think that's the key to blogging now. Finding those niches untouched by the likes of Forbes and other giga sites, or forums/reddit/quora or other parasites like LinkedIn and the like. Something G's algo doesn't even push Pinterest/YouTube/etc on. Those "mystery" niches I've started to refer...
That seems to be the case.
As a cornered rat, my plan is to blast my sites with semi-trash backlinks and semi-trash content just to see what happens. Been mostly whitehat otherwise. It's kind of showing results even, but it's not good enough. I've never gotten a manual penalty, so I'm low-key...
Google's "Helpful Content Update" and some of the updates following it back-to-back.
There are a bunch of different opinions as to what it's all about, but nothing concrete. Seeing how the SERPs (search engine result pages) have changed, it's seemingly obvious what's going on, but it can be...
There are rumors that Google went overboard a little and is slowly dialing things back. However, the way I see it, that rumor is unfortunately pure...
...Because if they dial it back, HCU has forced me to try out new things and I'm balls deep in GSA SER + AI spam right now, pumping out tiered...
