I can't say that I know how to silo properly other than on a theoretical level but if it's the way to go then I have to learn to do it proper by going down that route. I'm far more interested in the best way of doing things, not the easy way. Anyone disagree with siloing being the way to go?

I have an idea about an authority site that I want to build and work on as a long running project (indefinitely), but I'm torn between creating three sites targeting different audiences passing some relevant links between them or siloing a single larger site with relevant internal linking...

404 usually means that something was not found. File not found for example. So check so that your URL's are working.

You realize they can't just sell you a domain name and walk away right? How do you manage your domain? Through their infrastructure, that they developed and pay for hosting and keep developing. How many emails to support or how many minutes calling their support center before they've lost money...

I wouldn't say they print money. From what I've gathered there is no money in domains, they need to sell other services like website hosting, email services and whatever to make a profit. You can buy a domain without hosting, just point your domains DNS settings towards your free wordpress.com...

Because domains are dirt cheap. $10/year for a .com domain and that's if you don't find a discount. A good domain is great bang for the buck in the long run.
