I’m confused. Are you asking how to really increase the authority of your site? Or how to fool others into thinking you have a high authority website?

Google has said they plan to use snippets which they think better answers the search intent.

If those were the only choices I would go with Yoast because of their expertise. But I use Seopress on my sites

Shortpixel is great. There are two options. The traditional works on your site and saves the images there. The other option is a CDN based plugin that copies your image to a short pixel cdn and from which they serve adaptive sized images.
