Not that I have to qualify myself to someone across the internet, but you should probably have your BS meter serviced by your manufacturer. I hear they give douche bags an extended warranty so you should be covered.

Thank you all for all the (mostly positive) advice so far. I'll continue to peruse the site and do a lot of learning. I'm going to look for an offline job to support my family for now, while continuing to explore some of the opportunities here.
