I have used the Divi theme and had the most success with that. It is easy to set up and looks great, but right out of the box it will have slow load times so you will want to use the plugin Asset Cleanup which can speed up the homepage.

I went to start a teespring account when I realized that my Merch account is finally live after waiting about six months. I am going to try both ways to sell shirts, but the fact you need to sell at least 10 on teespring now sucks. I wonder if they were just completely inundated with requests.
