You get your channel started like any other way, set it up so that it looks professional and pretty (if needed). Just don't throw up videos without decking out the channel first.

There are several tools that are good. NoHands SEO is still a great value and it's always being updated. GSA is good but I'm not sure how it has been lately. The best tool though is to link manually, you know, the old fashioned way. Sometimes the most obvious is the best way. One by one.
