It's probably cause you're not positioning yourself right with the "Gatekeeper" If you are having that much trouble trying to get information relayed you should give the people you deal with an incentive to do so. Make it seem like they are the most important person and they'll bend over...

Always make sure that you yourself can sell the product. If you can't then there is no logical way you can help your sales person achieve sales. They will be unprepared and unsuccessful and be a headache for you. Once you find a good sales person.... Pay them very well. You'll never regret it.
