There's a proven business model that was pioneered by Line which is provided by the Korean company Naver. Line is very profitable & Facebook will just use their business model. Also the app have a large user base in China already. Naver's stock price dropped as a result of the buy.

As a former designer I believe people are more accepting of "FREE" things because they may use or may not use it. If you are a real novice at design practice by looking at design tutorial blog posts & doing it. Copy the looks of existing logos to understand that simplicity sometimes works too...

People in domaining that somehow think that the guys who got in early, sold domains, & only ever had parking pages can give advice about IM.

Register both because if you leave one open & launch your product your competitor might register what's available.

Go visit a domain blog to see how domainers think. If they are quoting you 5 figs you won't get that domain for cheap & it probably won't drop. But search for the domain in quotes & see if it was ever offered for sale.
