Most buyers have absolutely no problem with setting up an account on a given registrar to accept a purchase. In fact, in my experience 99% of buyers will provide you with their account details after seeing the whois anyway. Most of the time I never even needed to ask!
If it's making $1,200-$1,400/mo, you can easily expect to make around $10,000 for it (just basing it on numbers alone). This market is pretty rough right now, so the typical 12-18 month's revenue may not exactly be applicable here.
Escrow.com, Sedo, or GoDaddy have excellent escrow services. Just be careful, do your due diligence and don't get blinded by dollar signs. Crossing your T's and dotting your I's will prove very effective and helps to protect you.

There will always be deals and coupons on domains through the different registrars. I don't think I have ever paid over $5 for any of my .com's, and never over $1.19 for my .infos. (I have over 2,000 domains in my portfolio)
