Yeah, like I said it was a while ago! Good to know about Sape, I kind of discounted it way back and didn't think about it again, but will probably take another look next week - Tier 2 definitely isn't worth LM pricing.

Do you have anything in your search console telling you you've had a manual penalty, or have your rankings/traffic just been hit with no messages about it?

I agree with this - is there such as thing as 'careful black hat'? I worked for a company 2-3 years ago who were hit by a manual penalty and that was painful to get out of (3-4 months of full time work). They were getting 600+ very low quality links per week and were completely overdoing it...

From what I've heard, RankBrain is mainly sorting out their semantic search and the issues with that rather than concentrating on links. If you can post some information about the AI approach to links I'd love to read it.

Last I heard Matt Cutts was specifically targeting SAPE so the links were massively devalued or put you at risk of a manual penalty - that was quite a while ago though. Are you still getting results with them? I've used Links Management for a while now and I'm getting good results but it's not...

That's interesting - do you have an ongoing relationship with him at that rate, or is he only willing to do it at this price as a one-off until he gets enough positive ratings to charge more?
