Making money mostly involves time or money. i guess you have the money and not the time? There for take a look at adsense sites or amazon sites. buy some seo and you will be done for less then 100$ per site. should be hands off, but you can play around and learn + do some socialmedia...

i would prefer dedicate over vps, price wise you should be better off and performance wise too. That being said you should always optimize the server / vps, and your wordpress site to optimize it for speed and user experience. optimizing wordpress it self would save you some vps/dedipower...
