Had a bit of success in last week getting brand new sites onto PG 1 for higher competition keywords - interesting article on the topic at headlinedigital.com.au/payday-loans-2-0-update-google-reintroduces-sandbox/

Domain age wasn't an issue up until the update mid May. But its very hard now to get a newer domain ranking now. I'd say its an update to target churn and burn sites. We have tested new domains is about 50 niches that we could rank #1 within 2 weeks previously and havent got above #20 in 6 weeks.

Was it a brand new domain?

Quick Review: I ordered a package of of 200 PR 1-3 links about 2 weeks ago. Just got the report and the links all are in place. Rankings: Nothing amazing yet, we have seen a small rise of 1-2 places for the main keyword, hopefully we will get a jump into top 2 once the links are all accounted for.
