I would not take the risk. These days there is chatter that google updates are focusing more on relevancy of the back links. I don?t know how true that is but it does not seem worth taking the risk. Better to start with an expired domain that has lower metrics but more relevant back links.

I agree about mixing it up a bit. Another wp plugin I use is ?404 to start? - I?ve found this plugin to be very straightforward to use.

It is also possible that the Moz (opensiteexplorer) crawler has not reached this domain (yet), and that?s why you have a DA/PA of 1 with no back links. Check the domain in ahrefs and seomajestic also before you discard it - in my experience, they tend to have bigger data sets than Moz.

Dont forget to also check screenshotsdotcom - they can have images of an aged expired domain even when archive doesnt.

yes to 1. Thats what I do. I also install a 404 redirect to the homepage plugin to ensure that link juice flows from the other pages that don't exist anymore. As for 2. Thats also what I do and I believe it is correct but I too would be interested in anyone else's opinion on this.

For expired domains at least, I would also use the waybackmachine on the internet archive to make sure that the old website that was on the expired domain was legit.

I would go with a new domain (domain C) because the domain metrics you have for domains A and B are pretty low - I dont think they will help your website rank all that much and you may have missed some spammy back links to them that would do more harm then good
