I'm sure it's not common, but it's also not that uncommon. I had sites recovered in less than a week before, but also lots of sites stuck in that loop for months.

He must have spent many hours finding, removing and disavowing all those PBN and EDU links.

Other threads reported the same deindexing/penalty so I don't think it's limited to 'famous' sites though

Other threads mentioned big tech and supplement sites got hit quite hard. Do you guys think Google got smarter when it comes to PBNs?

It would be fantastic if you could do a case study so we can all learn something. Stuff like what kind of links you bought (on BHW exclusively or some other places), what kind of content quality, hosting... would be tremendously useful.

There's also another thread about sites being penalized. Is there a new update/manual review wave?

For pure spam, can't you just do a 'site:' search to verify?

Moz & ahrefs. I used to have semalt but they got a bit shady so we no longer used them.
