It depends, if the pages are all legit and nice pages, then you can just use one vps. I use git to deploy, so it is just as easy as "git pull origin master" to deploy the changes. However if you have a network, don't go that route as you need the ip diversity!

I highly recommend laracasts.com ... the lessons might be a bit advanced, but there are good starters too. It it will teach you good coding practices. Usually when you start out using tuts on the web, you tend to end up writing spaghetti code.
