Ah, that's probably a great reason why my posts got such good traffic - adverts. I guess you just need to be super careful when adding your Adsense, just to avoid upsetting the Reddit crowd (they're easy to upset).

10 would be my general rule. The blog is nicely aged so should get a decent bump from them. What I would steer clear of, is people who can add 100+ terrible links in one go. Keep the links quality and drip feed them in.

There are people in the BST section who can do them for you. It can be tricky getting edits past the Wikipedia moderators. I've done it myself, but within niches I know like the back of my hand (which helped a bit).

Webmaster Tools is never a great reporter of backlinks IMHO. Personally, I tend to google the specific URL and see if it's indexed. It it is then you know Google is aware of the link.

$300 - It was an old abandoned British Government domain which had a tonne of juicy links.

Most subreddits allow you to post any domain really. It's only the really big subreddits that don't like /r/politics, /r/news etc etc... Of course YMMV but there are plenty of decent subreddits that you can post to fine.
