It is so incredibly easy to do this with WordPress. Host your videos on your own webhost, or switch Amazon S3 for better performance. You could use any number of WordPress/S3 plugins to protect your videos on S3.
I highly recommend you go with WordPress, and any of the "usual suspects"...
Stukie,
Comparing a hosted service like membergate to a self-hosted wordpress plugin like DigitalAccessPass (DAP) is like comparing apples and oranges.
But off the top of my head, here are a few things that DAP has going for it against membergate.
Membergate costs I think like a few thousand...
Pedro,
Check out DigitalAccessPass (DAP). Works like a charm with OptimizePress (OP).
In fact, we're the #1 recommended plugin by the folks at OptimizePress. So you can't go wrong with DAP + OP :-)
Cheers!

Disclosure: I'm the founder/co-dev of DAP.
Netpup, thank you so much for your support of DAP. This is the first time I'm reading this thread here, and for a second, I was shocked to see someone accusing you of being me, just because you spoke on behalf of DAP. I'm so glad you jumped in with actual URL's to your site :-). Really...
Oh, you won't believe the kind of things people are running membership sites for (in a good way, I mean). Sometimes in weird and obscure niches.
It all comes down to your marketing in the end. You can make money in absolutely any niche, if you know how to become an authority in your niche...
You should use a membership plugin - like DigitalAccessPass (DAP) - that integrates with Plimus. That will allow you to completely automate your process:
1) Visitor arrives at your site
2) Clicks on buy button, goes to Plimus
3) Pays and comes back to a "thank you" page
4) In the backend...
Hey Rushdie,
Check out DigitalAccessPass (DAP) before you settle for anything lesser ;-)
It's not cheaper, but once you look at everything you get, you'll see it's actually a bargain.

Exactly my thoughts too (I'm thinking more like 29,900 fake or spam signup - as the traffic should be a LOT more even with "just" 1000 members :-)
You didn't say whether your host charges you $60 per month, or $60 per year. For 40 visits a day, even a $60/year (or $5/month) host is overkill...
+1 for Amazon.
CB sites end up being too "direct marketing" style (a.k.a "spammy") :-). 90% of them are junk products with even junkier sales pages and horrible graphics and such.
CB is certainly a big no-no for IM-related products, as it's so easy to steal commissions by figuring out the hop...
Some really cool premium themes for membership sites...
1. OptimizePress
2. FlexSqueeze
3. Elegant Themes
The first two are perfect for marketers, as they give you many marketing-related features like launch funnels, great looking buy buttons, ability to create beautiful squeeze pages, etc...
