It's a good strategy, but it really depends on Google. Nowadays, 301 redirects like this still work in 2021 but they don't always receive 100% of the juice all the time. Consider trying but lower your expectations.

Indexation time is way to long on my opinion and it seems that big changes like migrations or 301 redirects take forever to be processed by Google.
