Try advertising the same things and start experimenting with the content of your posts. This isn't that different than PPC - Word choice matters. Try using concrete facts (% off, amount saved, what they get, how long the deal lasts (if available), etc.)

Reddit is huge, there are a lot of different places you can try. Technology and Data is a big favorite for them imo.
I have found some dud niches and some not-so dud niches. Just depends, but I wouldn't really be quick to completely write off one of the most populated websites in the world...
