It doesn't seem typical to me, I've been in the niche for quite some time and I've never seen anything like this (on the sites I manage). What makes me "crazy" is the amount of hacked websites that have been ranking for adult keywords for a couple of weeks now.
It is quite similar in my case. Since the core update in August the site has been slowly losing some traffic, however, on the 13th or 12th (I can't confirm now) I lost about 60% of the traffic in all the countries that this site was targeting.

I don't see much difference, just an increase in those “-k” spammy backlinks. Have you found any “pattern”?
I already have a couple of weeks seeing the SERPs of adult keywords full of hacked sites (in several different languages). Some of them, recently created (at most a few weeks old) with no content and ranking for the top positions! WTF
