Well, easy way to judge is to think for yourself if the reviews sound naturally, e.g. would you put it the same way with the same (or similar words) if it were really you, who "used product xxx" or "worked at company xxx". Some reviews sound plainly artificial, fake and on purpose, just like...

Demeaning customers would contradict the idea and principles of marketing, copywriting and ethics not to forget. If you don't respect your readers/buyers, how much respect would you hold for your own self? No,people don't fall for that trick. Well, unless it's the neighbors' 4 years old kid....

Gimp or Photoshop is not a valid dilemma, if you have the serious intention to make a living as graphic designer. Gimp's only advantage is it's free...but you get what you pay for. Stating just a personal opinion, however.

Since you are asking about how to price your logos, I assume you are just starting off (at least as a freelance graphic designer). In order to establish a name, you could start as low as $30 for a logo. Gradually, depending on your talent and reliability, you can go up much-much higher.

I personally prefer (where applicable) to gather information exclusively from credible source, e.g. long-established organizations, scientific institutions etc.
