Well it is a combination of factors, Indeed your rank (*/5) is important but also the # of downloads). And in some sence you want to have a word of mouth effect to let your users be your promotors. I've used and use ranking service of fiverr but thats not your wild card to succes. good luck:)

Well, to integrate startapp you need to have acces to the files 'behind' the .apk file. Unfortunately it is (almost) impossible to implement the startapp code in a solely .apk file. You'll have to rewrite the app in eclipse and probably need to publish it as a new application on the market...

Yes that technique already boosted one of my apps skyrocket. I also noticed that you first need a startup # of downloads to get the ball roling. ie to land into the top 50 etc lists. And thats where i am specifically looking for. Some methods to generate the first, lest say 1000, installs.
