Yeah I get that it is controlled, but not so obviously by actually turning off news, which is a little more obvious than displaying certain sites over others. It's quite scary the monopoly side of it as people rely so heavily on google (not us obviously but the majority of the western world)...

Heaps of different plugins etc to help out with this, but you can't force it to index anything. I would make sure the page is compliant and use "Rank Math" if you're using wordpress, otherwise just create a sitemap and submit it to webmaster.google.com and hopefully they index the site/page.
