I remember someone running some tests, not with IEM but another self-hosted script. And what they found was that if it was a short message like 'Test' with a tracking pixel, it would get sent to the spam box.
However, if it was longer with more content, it would actually make it into the inbox...

Your browser keeps a record of where you visited before. So you need at least one throwaway hop before your affiliate link to clear this record:
