I'm pretty sure anyone who know's how to get the good returns, is already doing it. And they probably won't share too much about it because the more people that get in on something, the smaller the return gets.

Well if SOPA passes, I'm pretty sure youtube, google, and facebook will be the first sites to go away, so a lot of our money making ways will go away too. :( Then we'll have to go... legit.
1 and 1 has been very bumpy. I always sign up for the deals, but the hosting and the pricing always seems to 'accidentally' change after a couple months. Eventually I got tired of calling them to get things fixed and moved on. Definitely recommend again.
Hostgator has been decent to me. Nothing amazing, but no complaints. Especially not like the troubles you were having. Good luck on your next hosting endeavor!
