Well, my first blog is still working and up because it is a personal blog where I post my rants, random thoughts, commentaries, etc. I never used it for profit. I did get a notification that it has earned like $4 and some cents since I think I had Google adsense running on it. :D

Quality content will always be welcome especially for long term SEO. Be sure that you're writing about something you really know about and you took the time to research your content. Even if you have a 1500 word article, if the content is sh*t it is not going to help.
