I don't think it's illegal. We do this with our online store all the time. 200,000 emails in our database, and ten years without being confronted by consumer watchdogs or anything.
I also think making your site multilingual will help with rankings. I assume you are selling your products internationally? The grammar on your site isn't wonderful either - you might want to find a native English speaker with editing experience to help edt your website text.
Try to build up a customer base and email list by selling products on ebay under your store name. Retain email addresses of ebay customers, and email them a newsletter daily.
A lot of my website visitors are from Japan, but I would like to further leverage the Japanese market by registering on their social network site named mixi. They need a Japanese mobile phone number for registration though, and I am not in Japan and don't know anybody there!

Hello! I have a multilingual site which I made which uses a few thousand .htaccess lines and the .htaccess file is 500kb to redirect the links. At the moment most of the links look something like this:
