After paying up few bucks in 4-5 contests, the response will be immense there onwards. I haven't tried it yet. But this is the way that I'll be trying this.

Depends. I'm a student and whatever I make from internet is good enough for me to enjoy my life. Not to mention, I pay 70% (not entirely from IM, some from offline projects I indulge in) of my college fee by myself while my parents pay the remaining 30%.
